Arctic Cat '07 650 H1 Belt Slipping?

Recommended Posts

I have an '07 650 H1. Recently, when trying to take off easy, it acts like the belt is slipping. If I give it the gas, it grabs and takes off. It has 1300 miles on it and it has never had water or mud in the belt housing.

I can think of no real reason why the belt should be worn enough to slip. Could there be some kind of lubrication problem not allowing the sheaves to move properly?

One idea is that if you stop suddenly the ctv does not have a chance to close properly wedging the belt and holding the sheaves open. When you attempt to pull away the belt slips (and chirps) into the lower position allowing you to have the proper gearing.

Secondly belt dust can be a problem even without mud or water in the cvt. take the footboard off and then the clutch cover. The two long bolts go towards the back. Make sure not to tear the metal gasket it is reusable. Then clean everything with brake cleaner if needed. Also check to see if the bolt on the primary is tight (if you never took the primary off then you wouldn't have to worry about this)

Finally I would be suprised if the belt was out of tolerance at those miles and you should be fine with a good cleaning. After you clean things up let us know if it is still happening and what kind of noise it is making ie chirp at start or constant squeel or noting.

Something similar happened to me this winter when I was plowing. I tried to push a large snow pile and glazed the belt by having it slip when attempting to move forward. I changed the belt with an older spare and all was fine. I was also told that you can attempt to remove the glazing with some fine sandpaper by sanding the sides of the belt lightly.

PS I added the make and model to the title

I did a compression test on my 2005 Bombardier Traxter 650 CVT and it's 75 PSI.  service manual only talks about leak down test.  No specification for engine compression the manual.  What does 75 PSI tell me?  Thank in advance.

A little history of this machine.  640 miles.  Picked it up about 2 years ago, not running. Probably the computer.  Tested all circuits and confirm it was the computer.  Long story short, I watched a Youtube video and fixed the computer. ATV now started and runs.  BUT, it tops out 20 MPH.  I cleaned the carb 3 times also using a Mikuni carb kit after the second time.  Slide in carb is going up and down.  Only adjustment for fuel is at 1.5 turns out.  NGK Sparkplug had soot on main part but brown on the electrode.  Champion sparkplug is brown.  I check CVT clutches and they both appear to engage like they suppose to.  Checked valve clearance it's 0.00, I can't get any feeler gauges in-between.  I check timing chain I believe it's in the correct position and hasn't skipped.  I removed muffler plug and drilled into muffler to try and make sure it wasn't plugged.

2022 Sector 550, 414 miles on it and the gas gauge reads empty.  I topped off the gas and it didn't change.
There is no fuse that I could find.  No access at the gauge cluster.
Wiring on the top of the tank looks good, properly connected.
Could the sending unit in the tank be stuck or broken?
Has anybody removed the tank lid?  Any tricks?
      Any other ideas?
      Thanks for any help,
      Clyde

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

I just bought two 2002 Suzuki LT80K. Do I need to mix the gas or use straight unleaded?
