1 more week to go And I'm going to try riding the only part of my hand thats tender now it where it was cut open. I'll have to see how much my thumb can take pressing the throttle.

Glad to see you are doing better. The thing to watch out for most is that you do not jam your hand with steering feedback. My wife had an operation on her hand and she was riding full throttle again in a year. Take your time to build back up the strength.

They sell a twist throttle kit if you think that might help. It is a cheesy hand grip that just extends top push the throttle lever but something like that might work as a temp. solution.

Thanks Swampcat. I've seen that twist throttle it pushes your thumb throttle. I rather spend the 102.00 and get the Motions pro twist throttle. I should be ok as long as I take it slow & my gloves have some good padding in the palm. A new quad with Eps would be my best friend.

I pulled out my Big Bear needed to do a few things probably havent been started in a year. Gassed it up charged the battery started right up. I have been using it around the property for this and that. Went to hook up my trailer to pull up to the house while it was idling it quit. Went to start it turned over but wouldnt start. After trying a few more times lost all power. Pulled it up to the house with the John Deere, the first thing i checked was the Universal fit soloenoil from Amazon and it was only a 10 AMP fuse so it does not universally fit the big bear it should be 30 AMP fuse. At the time i remember noticing it but forgot, at the time i had other problems like wiring harness being in a box stuck engine and no spark. when i bought it, yeah i know, thats one ishould have walked away from, but if i go to the trouble of hooking up my trailer and going there, its following me home.
Thats old news, i still need to check it all out see if it lost spark and see if the starter shorted out it was acting kind of sluggish, i replaced the fuse with the spare 10 amp and blew immediately. I will try a 30 and see what happens.

The family has two quads and have been asking where to ride around here- we are about 70 miles north of spokane and looking for places that are nice to go visit for beginners.
We have a 2003 Polaris sportsman, and a 2004 Artic Cat 2-up (I forget the size)

Starting this build thread to keep up with everything on my build and hope to motivate someone!

I picked up this 2008 Yamaha Big Bear 250 2 weeks ago. A guy that I hunt with parked it at the hunt club for a year or so before I asked him if he wanted to sell. He said " fill my feeder and throw some batteries in my cameras, and you can have it". Sounds like a deal to me!
I have attached some pictures of how it sat under a tarp in the woods and when I got it home and cleaned up a little.
