2004 Suzuki Vinson wont run

I am working on a vinson for a friend and i cant figure it out. I am getting spark. Carb has been cleaned. I soaked it for about 3 hours, rinsed, blew out passages, and re assembled. The bowl gasket could stand to be replaced but i didnt have parts at the time. I did look good enough to make a good seal though. Also, the air filter is removed. I am waiting on a new one to come in. So, when i first got the 4wheeler from him, he said it wouldnt run. i charged the battery, put some fresh gas in it and cranked it up. Next day i put a little seafoam in the tank, removed the air filter, and it wont crank. i held my hand over the intake with my fingers split to create a little suction and it still wont do anything. i've sprayed starter fluid into the intake, wont bust off. i cleaned the carb, still wont start.

i'm thinking the motor is not getting gas. also, i should add that the petcock is in the "PRI" position. Reason being is that when i disconnected the gas lines from the tank the only position that gas would run out is in the "PRI" position. when it is in the "on" or "res" position no gas runs out of the tank. Also, when i re installed the carb i put the petcock in the PRI position for about 1 minute to let the bowl fill up and i then removed the drain screw in the bowl to see if the bowl had fuel in it. It did not. No gas drained out. I checked the lines, they are clear.

also, i'm used to carbs with main butterfly and a choke butterfly. this carb has a main butterfly and some type of thing that slides up and down. what is that? how does it work? is it temp controlled?

ideas? thanks for any help!

no, i havnt put any gas in the cylinder via the plug hole. also, i pulled the plug out and laid it near the plug hole and turned it over to check spark and it was sparking very well. i know jack about these machines.

what is that big thing that slides up and down inside the carb throat? some type of choke? i'm not talking about the throttle butterfly.

Just a suggestion. I had a similar problem with my 02'...No start, acted like it was flooding, had great spark...It really had me stumped. Just for sh**s and giggles I swapped in a brand new plug and it fired right up. Just because you see a spark on the plug while its out doesn't mean it's sparking across the electrode where it's most needed in the combustion chamber. Just sharing an experience. I had mine tore down pretty bad and it ended up being a simple thing. It's worth a shot.

My grandaughter has a KXF 50 that has no spark. The starter also will not engage with button but works if straightwired.  I have checked switches with meter.  Does the starter circuit run through CDI box?

Okay, so I have a 2002 Rubicon 500…bought it last year and it sat for several months until I put a new rear axle in, FINALLY got that done and was super excited to finally have my wheeler going, just to notice a strong gas odor. Popped the seat off and sure enough, pouring gas from the carb overflow. Fast forward a few more weeks and get the new carb and get it in, no leak! Yay. Except now I have no spark. 😒 I’ve tried another plug and checked and am getting no power to the coil pack. I’ve read and read and mostly what I’ve found is ECU, which is fine…but I like to exhaust all avenues before buying the more expensive parts just because I don’t wanna spend the money and it have ended up being something simple that I overlooked because I was trying to rush. 😂 I don’t know if it’s relevant, but I read on another post that someone had similar issues with theirs and it was the sensor on the side of the carb, just a thought since this literally happened after I put the new carb on. It also displays “- -“ on the display screen where it should show the gear position.

So i bought a chinese carb and in messing around still trying to get it to run right i figured id pull the spark plug to see if it was running rich, well it was definitely but also i have a nasty mark on the strap (i think thats what its called) that looks like the piston has been smacking it. I never actually pulled the plug because i had it running for a second on starter fluid when i first bought it and was just stupid and figured whatever was in there was good. The part number on it is DPR7EA, which is similar to what is called out for in the manual but i assume the little bit off that the code is means it must be a bit longer or something. Unless the plugs are made like this, but i can pretty easily see that metal has been pushed away from the area of impact. What are the odds that my piston is trashed now you think? It does still run just not well due to carb issues but thats a whole other problem.

Actually i just took a second to google both plugs and it says the reach is the same its just different resistor values and gap size, so maybe the bigger gap is why its hitting. Either way the actual one for it is on the way and i hope it just didnt do to much damage. Wish i woulda just went over the whole thing like i normally do with this stuff.

      Wondering if 1997 klf400b has a decompression, I’m getting 90psi on gauge.

Have had the carb apart twice now and can"t find any obvious problems. but if I leave the fuel on it floods the float bowl and leaks out the overflow. What should I be checking?
