update. Well, I dont believe it, but after a carb requild, several times, valve adj, timing chain and timing gear alignment, and new drive shaft boots :) I took it for a ride and it ran like a bat out a hell. until i put in low gear. then it runs like crap. it it obvious, put it high, runs great, put it low and it backfires and runs like crap "under throttle"

so does it have a rev limiter? my kawaski has a reverse gear limiter!!! could this bike be wired wrong? did it come with a rev limiter for low gear or reverse gear? its difinative, i tried it multiple times with same result.

btw, ive lost all brake. nothing but lever:(

thanks, dale

I can't believe the timing was off!

As far as the low gear, if they messed with the engine maybe they messed with the clutching. With the secondary mod complete the low gear is super low. So low in fact that when completing the mod I would let off the throttle and the engine breaking would bring the quad to a dead stop.

The brakes have always been an issue with the cats and they can be tricky to bleed. Make sure there is enough fluid under the seat and in the reservoir in the handle bars.

I have also noticed when you have a bearing go bad the breaks fade in and out as the wheel rotates off center. So if you have brakes every once and a while after pumping them up check your wheel bearings.

Update. I adjusted the valves one more time. this time i really took my time. I made a differance with the backfiring. I removed some wiring going to the battery that did not appar to be factory. seems that it had some type of power commander. I removed it and that really helped. doesnt idle well, will backfire and shut off. It will restart and runs strong.

I changed the upper master cylinder/brake handle. still no brakes:( could not get a mechanical bleed to work:(

I painted it and had the seat recoverd. looks good:)

thanks again. dale

I just bought a 1984 Suzuki LT185 ATV and am looking for the OWNER’S manual. ( not a service manual)
I contacted Suzuki Canada but they have no paper or digital copies in their archives.
Does anyone possibly have a digital copy they’d be willing to share?

I've got a 1995 220 Bayou and the electric start does not work.  When I got it the machine was pretty rough but I was told it ran less than a year ago.  The key switch had been cut off and wires  twisted after the key was lost.  I bought a new ignition switch and repaired the wiring and it is working correctly.  It is in neutral and the neutral light is on when the key is turned on but I get nothing when pressing the start button.  I verified there is no voltage going to the starter from the solenoid.  The fuse in the solenoid is good.  Something I found that is odd is that I get positive voltage(12 volts) to the brown, black, and white wires that run into the solenoid when the key is on.  That doesn't make sense to me but I could be wrong.  I would appreciate any help I can get. Thank you in advance.

I bought this from a buddy to plow snow up in the North Eastern Washington- its been getting oil in the water and I've been changing the oil often and adding collant as necessary-
I've taken the stator cover off and I'm looking at the Oil Seal and water pump seal and they look good- Although I've ordered a factory oil Seal I'm looking at putting it in this afternoon-
I don't have the factory service manual- am I suppose to Add RTV to the Stator cover Gasket? I've seen some folks suggest grease other suggest RTV?

Any suggestions here- I'm trying to reassemble it tonight- I looked at downloading the manual but need to get up to 10 posts firsts it looks like-

I appreciate any suggestions- normally I'm a jeep and honda dirt bike guy- but  I got a good deal on the quad and a plow so I went for it
Its got a bit over 3K and runs pretty good- but I've had her tore apart for 3 weeks to figure out the oil in the coolant issue.

I have an Axis 500 made by Hisun.  I uses a solid rear gearbox with no differential action.
I would like to convert this to a true differential with locking ability.  I've searched all over trying to find a source with no luck.
Has anyone done this before, or know of a source?
      Thanks,  Tom
