I have a similar problem with my 2007 650 so I will give some advice that I have not even tried yet. Mine has no trouble going into gear but there are some times when it just "feels" like the gears are not meshed right. Personally I am waiting to chip a gear and have the whole case explode but that has not happened yet. Once it is in gear it rides with no problems at all and in low the feeling is non existent.

I think I need to adjust the linkage from the shifter to the transmission.

I plan on opening the case and checking out the gears and replacing the bevel gear for a straight cut one but I put my quad under a lot more duress that the normal rider. I run 29.5" tires, have a BBK, and 80% of my riding is in mud/water so the chances of the same outcome for you would be slim.

Now with the comparison over here are my suggestions.

It is normal for the gears to pop out of gear with the engine cold. The RPMS are usually higher when warming up and you can listen to the idle to get a feeling of when to drop it into gear. This happens all the time with our 500, you have to wait a minute or two before you can drop it into high and get going.

From your description the problem does sound like a high idle. After the quad is warmed up and the choke is off can you get it into gear without slamming it or are you still experiencing the same problem?

If so you may have to turn your idle down. Only as a last resort would I mess with the linkage.

To adjust the shifter place the bike in neutral. You should have a N on the display. Adjust the linkage so that the shift lever is in the center on the neutral shift gate with no pressure to the plastic gate. snug up the lock nuts.

Now try all the gears, the only gear that may be difficult is low. Low may need a little tap of the throttle for the gears to shift.

I did a compression test on my 2005 Bombardier Traxter 650 CVT and it's 75 PSI.  service manual only talks about leak down test.  No specification for engine compression the manual.  What does 75 PSI tell me?  Thank in advance.

A little history of this machine.  640 miles.  Picked it up about 2 years ago, not running. Probably the computer.  Tested all circuits and confirm it was the computer.  Long story short, I watched a Youtube video and fixed the computer. ATV now started and runs.  BUT, it tops out 20 MPH.  I cleaned the carb 3 times also using a Mikuni carb kit after the second time.  Slide in carb is going up and down.  Only adjustment for fuel is at 1.5 turns out.  NGK Sparkplug had soot on main part but brown on the electrode.  Champion sparkplug is brown.  I check CVT clutches and they both appear to engage like they suppose to.  Checked valve clearance it's 0.00, I can't get any feeler gauges in-between.  I check timing chain I believe it's in the correct position and hasn't skipped.  I removed muffler plug and drilled into muffler to try and make sure it wasn't plugged.

Hi guys. I have a problem where the quad will start and run well for about 5 minutes and then it dies. On inspection the airbox has oil in it (quite a lot). The oil is pumping through the cylinder head breather hose. This problem first happened suddenly. I have since done the top end including, piston, gaskets, rings and valves. I have also done the carb (not that I thought that this was the problem). The compression seems normal. The only thing that I can think of, is that I did not grind the valves well enough. Anyone experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? Any other thoughts?

1996 4x4 Timberwolf rearend width. Can someone with some knowledge of these machines answer this question for me please. Are all 4x4 timberwolves this narrow in the rearend? These tires are so close the right one actually rubs the muffler.  Thinking about seeing if there are any spacers out there for it. I need at least an inch more clearance.
