its all in what your looking for. every quad manufacture can make a good quad. its tough buying a used one because you don t know if it was taken care of or not. i m a yamaha guy and i think if you want a 400 a big bear would work well for you. honda makes good 400 4x4 s too.

Welcome to QUADCRAZY! I agree with GREENIE, it's important to make sure the quad has been taken care of. I have a 660 Yamaha Grizzly, I had a 700 Suzuki King Quad, had a 450 Yamaha Kodiak, and a 220 Kawasaki Bayou.

All good quads. No major issues. If you stick with a major manufacturer and take care of the quad, it will last forever. If you modify and beat on it, it will need more TLC and part replacements...

Welcome to Quad Crazy!

If you want something reliable then stick with Yamaha or Honda. Not always the best for every situation but you turn the key they start right up and off you go. Very Dependable. Kawi used to be another good manufacturer but I have noticed that their V Twins need a lot of TLC and don't mix well with water.

Thanks for the info I have really been looking for a Yamaha, Can-am, Suzuki or Honda. People seem to like these brands the more than the rest. I am curious about motor size. I use to think that I was a big guy but I am only 6'2" and around 200 lbs. How much motor should I be looking for? I was thinking nothing less than a 400. it that too small or good enough for a good power to weight ratio? Thanks.

it a depends on what kind of riding your doing. if your just going for slow leisurely rides and a little work around the house then a 400 will do just fine. but if you want to ride a faster and need some power you definitely want something bigger. 660 or 700 grizzlys are really good and a buddy of mine has a 700 honda rincon thats pretty good.

I am a newbee also, and just curious, I just bought a handa rancher ES, but I will ways seen people compair the Honda Utility ATVs, like the Rancher, Tecon, Rincon or Rubicon against the Yamaha Grizzly with pretty much everyone in agreement that the grizzly are faster non-utilitarian type ATVs, I am just wondering why doesnt anyone ever compair the Grizzly to the honda sport models like the TRX 700XX or TRX450. I am just curious

So when you all buy a used quad, how do you decide on whether the price is fair or not? I have been hunting on Craigslist and then checking KBB and NADA to see those sites say for the price. both sites vary greatly in price on some 4 wheelers, others are fairly close. what do you use how do you decide how much to offer? 2008 Yamaha grizzly 700 EFI with EPS - $6550(private seller) does this sound like a fair price? how about 2011 Yamaha Grizzly 700 PS - $7997 (dealer)?

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

My king quad 700 runs rough when cold then won't start some times but not often when it's hot. And occasionally smoke's a lot when it's cold I'm guessing that's rings but I'm worried unless it's causing the other problems

      All help is appreciated thanks

Has anyone else had an issue on older king quads where the oil would leak from the top of the head (due to a failed gasket) and drip onto the hot exhaust? Mine got so hot one time it caught fire. Just wondering if this is a common issue, as I've seen the same thing happen on multiple bikes that were the same model.

My 2014 750 king quad stalls sometimes when I touch or turn the handlebars, the problem has gotten worse,my machine has 475 miles and is only trail ridden,I have a new factory battery and i have 14.2 volts when the quad is running and 13.3 on the battery when not running, also using a multimeter there is no change in volts when turning the bars until it does stall,If I pull the 40 amp power steering fuse it will not stall.......I've been told its the ECU,Hate to buy one if thats not the problem, but its kinda leaning towards that,,,,,need some opinions.
