Dummy & a quad

Recommended Posts

I went to move my daughters atv and had trouble getting it to start. I didn't think it had been rode enough to be out of gas I was wrong I had truned the fuel cock to what I thought was res. & I was turning it to off. It took awhile before I realized what I was doing! Add gas and it will run. My brain fart for today.

about 17 years ago I test rode a Honda big red atc and didn't buy it because it pulled bad and at the time I didn't know that low air pressure could caused it. The seller said it was a low tire but didn't offer to put air in it & let me ride it again and it was at a shop so I didn't think he was telling the truth. If I knew as a seller the tire was low I would taken care of that before they let people ride it. I would have bought it if I knew he was telling the truth.

Whats funny to me the Forman we just bought is a foot shift. When I was asking the seller ?s he said it had a hand clutch. His father bought it new and it was given to him but he said he never rode it much so when we got there and looked at the quad I said that's a rear brake not a clutch he insisted it was a clutch. It would be funny seeing the quad stop every time he went to shift gears and still not know its a brake. He was 20 something yrs.old .

I here you! He said he only rode it about 2 times him self and he had it at the Honda dealer to be serviced. I think he sold it for his Dad. He knew nothing about the atv. I ask about oil changes he didn't know of any so I got a filter & oil on the way to pick up the quad. The oil looked like it had just been changed. He didn't even clean out the storage compartments. It came with bullets but there was no rifle.

Oil is getting in the air box from crankcase vent tube, I put the two hoses that go to the air box together then something started to smoke on the front of the engine. There is a filter? In the line I blew that out.

      Hey everybody,

My proficiency is with Hondas and Yamahas make me see RED!

This bike is my brother in law's, it has 1199 miles on it and went from running great to dead with no start. Every once and a while it will start and sputter for 2 seconds. It is extremely sporadic when it fires but never runs for longer than 3 seconds.

      Here is where we sit:
      Brand New Fully Charged battery
Carb was cleaned with air hose and carb cleaner then into the ultrasonic cleaner with Aircraft aluminum cleaner
New Shindy Carb kit (made in Japan version)
Cleaned out petcock and gas tank
      New 93 Non Ethanol Gas
      New Spark Plug

It gets a spark through the spark test light every time
      Bluish white spark
When holding the spark plug 1/4" - 3/8" away from head it will jump and spark to the head
      Good Compression

      Here are the readings:

Pickup Coil 519 Ohms (range 459-561)
Charging Coil 266 Ohms (range 270-330)
      Lighting Coil 0.700 (range 0.702-0.858)
Spark plug Cap 10.58 Ohms (10kohms
Ignition Coil Primary Coil 0.5 ohms (range 0.18-0.28 ohms)
Ignition Coil Secondary Coil 8.20 kOhms (range 6.32-9.48 kOhms)

Would y'all think stator and pick up coil, rectifier or CDI are the culprit?

What's the best kids atv out there? I've seen everything from the ones released by the major manufacturers to all those knock offs. Kawasaki has a KFX 50 that is pretty nice for under $1800...
