  1. Yes the timing hole is rathar difficult, a bolt comes out so you can see the timing mark down through the bolt hole, a little small, would have been better if it was a larger hole to look down in. I was looking at your photo i see the T, i would have expected to see an F not far from the T but didnt see one on the flywheel, I do know with the flywheel removed you can see a small line next to the crank shaft for timing, but that for people who are going deeper into the engine than you are.

  4. Oh ok. Some bike bolts do have small heads.. I'd forgotten about them.. 8mm is near enough to 5/16 to work.

  5. I think you need to clean the rust off. In the two manuals I looked in it says the timing mark is a single small groove/line. It looks like a small chisel mark in the flywheel. There are other ignition advance marks but they are one long mark with a short mark either side.

  6. When I got my quad there was no carb on it. Perhaps I got lucky. The only thing I had to do was adjust the AF mixture.. The search for a stock carb is ongoing. So far no luck. Don't know why but I don't seem to be able to find one. You would think a 2000 Yamaha bear tracker carb would be pretty common.

  8. When I was a kid, one of my chores was to polish my Dad's shoes. I always liked the picture of the Kiwi bird on the can of polish. tom
