  1. I wasn't aware either till i saw it on Craigslist. Now there's another one on Craigslist. Same issue. Im just interested because I drive a semi-truck for a living, and it's weird. It's a Polaris 500 Diesel it's got huge letters on side of tank DIESEL.

  3. Well the Diesel Polaris 500 sold so moving on. Looking at a Warrior now Will keep posting.
  4. Sounds like a fun little project and you can take the time on it. Basically it's going to be a huge learning process. i would definitely invest in a manual, saves a lot of headaches. Go on eBay and look up 87 Yamaha Big Bear and see what parts you may need.
  5. Hello David im a fan of the Yamaha warrior also. Never owned one but there's a lot of them out there so they have to be tried and true. It's the perfect quad for any kind of riding and easy to work on. i fix motorcycles & quads in my spare time been working on small engines since 89. I would love too ride in W. Virginia must be great. Can you tell me what to look for if i buy a used Warrior? Thanks Sparkplug
  6. Don't force into gear or neutral. Buy a couple cans of PB blaster nd start spraying everything that moves. Something is seized-up you have to trace it down. The trans will probably shift into neutral by rocking the bolt on engine sprocket or is it a shaft drive? Spray the sparkplug and let sit awhile, then remove ( carefully ) and spray in motor liberally. Spray every nut and bolt. Keep us posted.
  7. Thanks mikeexplorer will keep for later reference, it seems all these quality quads use Warn winches. iF you read my last two replys i replaced the solenoid and fixed the problem. Winch is working like new. It seems these Warn winches stand up to a lot of abuse. Thanks from sparkplug.
  8. I was checking out eBay for a fuel pump and there isn't much but there's some switches that could cause it not to start ( safety switches ) like a thermal switch and a couple other switches. Easy fix i know but just no experience with diesel engines. $1200 hundred bucks is the asking price, and it comes with a winch & plow so it's a 4- wheeler. they only made these for 3 years 99, 20 & 2001 Thanks for reading.
  9. Hey here's a topic you don't have everyday. Wanting to buy a quad on Craigslist ( 1999 Polaris 500 Diesel ). Guy bought with intentions to get running well he has no time for it now. PO said it ran one day and not the next. Current owner said it looks to be ridden hard in past. Im wondering what issues it has about starting? Most likely has a bad fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. ( i thought all diesel engines had fuel filters ) Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with these models? Thanks
  10. Sooo glad to get this working for customer. He had the spare relay he obtained when he purchased used. These carbs are very touchy feely thing's, one false move and they leak. Pretty easy to work on though. I don't understand nothing about 2006 or 07 and later one's being fuel injected.
  11. Well made it home for Thanksgiving, and was able to get winch working for customer. Turned out to be solenoid or relay ( was a pain to install new relay ). When they just click 9 times out of 10 its the relay. The other quad is clicking when using starter. Customer opted to replace himself. We'll see how that plays out. keep you posted. The relay on this quad is on right side attached to outside of battery box. First must remove brake rear brake reservoir out of way. By the way it is a Warn winch standard with Arctic Cat. Very decent quads. Thanks for reading and replying.
  12. Thanks Davefrombc very good answers. I've never had a starter apart let alone a winch, but i hear or read about guy's doing all the time. I've used utube as a source of solutions in the past, and eBay also for parts. I will keep you and everyone posted as im out of town until everyone's.
  13. Test kill switch. Buy service manual and multi meter and start checking electrical components. Make sure your grounded if not you may have burnt up your new coil-ignition. I've never seen a plug not show some kinda life unless it's totally f-up. Make sure your boot is actually on right. Im sure you know the battery has to have a lot of life in her. Keep us posted.
