  1. this steering knuckle is not the same as the other. I would think they should be same height. The right is about 1/4" or so taller and further back. I do not have an image with tape, here's best I have right now without correct angles.. when I measured, however, that is 1 thing. Another is the distance from the rotor to end of wheel bolt is also about 1/8" or maybe 3/16 difference between the two. i do not see how compression could play into those measurements. it's all metal 😕 I need a either a larger right wheel n tire that'd look sweet heh or I have to find a correct right buckle which most seem to sell as complete housing left side: right (rubbing) side:
  2. yes perhaps it is not the color/nut there, but the compression of the hub. I recall doing something like this with brakes/calipers. I measured and left side appears to be compressed in a bit more.. might take photos and upload to confirm what I am seeing.
  3. yeah I def see differences. looks like different hubs. I have not measured the mounting bolts
  4. tire off.. about to switch left/right to see if I see any difference. right now, I can't tell other than that rod end looks like it should be replaced and if you want to clean and keep rust off cast metal, rub a tire on it for about 2-3 hours while I'm rotating, can anyone tell me more about this steering knuckle/plate setup (again this is right front wheel)?:
  5. btw, check this out: http://www.craigshunter.com/
  6. lol @ email eagle eyes well then my beer was correct, you didn't get it heh we need some alert system for new bike postings. I can't spend my better time searching when I'm trying to figure out part names still ffs. it's just all metal n oil. parts is parts. but time kills me. I realize my garage is not setup for these projects. takes me about an hour just to get setup to start breaking something apart. as with my first 300 .. be nice if I had the smarts to do this on a cheaper bike. what I have learned on this bike I could have done with on a cheaper and then I bet I'd have picked this 300 apart quick and either passed or saved myself $400+ (talked him down)... now, I figure I'll enjoy this enough to make enough back in fun learning and ending up with better bikes/deals in the future.
  7. i don't mind someone painting over a dent or using non-oem screws and parts, etc. but this guy said he rebuilt things - I bet he bought a chinese carb, new tires and that's it. claims he bought it from auction. I can not find any vin 😕 heh yeah.. well I'm learning tons, which is fun since it's not forced schoolwork heh I'm hoping wrong rim. You are right, that steering knuckle is thick metal and lined by 2 bolts, I do not think that can be adjusted. Must be wrong rims or tires (probably both).
  8. man I hope you get the bayou.. and then put it on a train for $50 to me and I'll cover your time replacing the plug and test driving for me for what I paid with my mickey mouse'd (damn near duct taped) '93 300... my wife would at least understand the economic thought process! how are you finding these, craigslist seems limited and others I spend more time figuring out how to search local areas and then the bikes and usually end up with makeup ads.
  9. perhaps this is not the rod, looks like the piece it connects to. I need to pull the wheel. this thing is missing pins and such 😕 heh well, look at all my improvements I'll have in no time! 💪
  10. this bike! did this guy sucker me or what.. ok, looks like this means something is bent that I do not see or one rod is longer vs the other? how long do you think this would last before it ripped into the tire? this is the right side, left side tire clears no problem I can not find them on www.kawasakipartshouse.com
  11. wow that looks amazing. I'd sit here for a bit, chat with the cheerleaders and crew.. not chew on any dust... enjoy the view and then play catch up. How do they handle pole position? First signup or do they have position races?
  12. cool, welcome. enjoy the el manual my spanish is worse than your english, and your english is not that far off from mine heh how about sharing some images/video of whatever wonderful work you are doing to the Bayou 👍
  13. where was the question? heh and yeah, I need to put mounts on myself. Which do you trust/use for your bikes? I just have the one older gpro but I too hope to catch something (not deer, I can spit on those doe)
  14. if I ever get out to your neck of the woods, imma feel guilty if we do not ride together.
  15. lmfao ... my wife is too upset to even look at mine ... and then I ran across this just now on craigslist:
  16. I ended up buying a 12mm self-tap (no piggy) with crush washer and a 14mm piggy. I figured if the self tap fails, I have the piggy. But I also was measuring to try and limit the amount of possible metal. I let it idle for about 5-8min and then ran it around the yard for couple mins.. its raining and I saw 3 oil drips. However, let's just say my undercarriage isn't very sightly heh. And the plastic is ripped apart a bit from the previous owner's handy work when he filled oil. I'm hoping I only have my same drip as previous and solved my dp botched job
  17. ride it out here and i'll buy it! let's just swap and you can leak oil across country 😕 re: diff lock, I meant most 2wd atvs (I might be wrong here?) seems like the majority are racers.
  18. so.... debates aside, do ya'll pick up bikes like that wheeless rancher? and if so, probably no oil, so I'm checking mainly frame and suspension, possibly electrical? I should carry a spare battery now that I have a roll of bounty in the back heh and @JacobSlabach I wasn't saying crap I was stating opposite, actually. I know very little about all these bikes. But I do not want someone to nod their head like they know my bike when I say "honda" because they own a civic. I want them to do like they have already done "bayou!? is that a swamper?" fun times oh and again @JacobSlabachif I really didn't like them or figured it would never run, then that's very no fun. my thinking was I'd build it, they would come, sell it - I learned and had some fun with ya'll. and be easy to part with a rancher for me, at this time in my atv career
  19. @mikeexplorer you winch, but you save @Frank Angerano I like it. Probably that 2500# badlands is same as your 2000#. I imagine both max out around 90% and the badlands a bit lower. I bet we can find comparable pics of internals and have a "battle of the winches" sticky. Actually, be cool to have a sticky of "winch savers!" heh
  20. maybe this is like ford/chevy/dodge then. they are all fine by me, whatever fits your wants n' needs. I am talking out of my pie-hole as well. You, at 15, have more experience with bikes and engines than I do not riding them for longer than 15years! This is my first bike, so i'ts probably just the honeymoon period This thing is beat on and I do not regret my decision, just my negotiating and lack of ability to properly read the bike and it's flaws. I knew handlebars were bent, should have known that meant it was either rolled or smashed and there could be other damage aside from plastic (which there's plenty of). Hah looking at it again yesterday after going over the winch thread, the front of the frame is so bent up, not sure I can easily get my HF badlands installed 😕 But honestly I want to get a new frame and really build this thing so I know every part. I do not need to rebuild the engine/diffs/tranny/etc, I don't have endless time. But watching videos and you guys, makes it seem fun and easy to pull apart heads and adjust valves. Send a half-ton atv my way that needs such work and maybe I'll bite, regardless of manufacture. Oh, I got this mainly due to the 4x4 as I thought I could not trust 2wd (esp without a diff lock) to plow. Weight plays heavily into it, you are right, I want it all! <- starts searching for less desirable sportsmans Seems like the front diff does not kick in right away. Sigh, another fix-it/tune-it thread perhaps or that's the way the bayou works?
  21. yes, ty. Napa Auto has been kind to me, expensive, but kind and I'm sure they'll have a tap/pb. My concern is the amount of metal now from the self-tapping. Instead of 1-2 threads like I caused, there will be all of them threads (looks like 9-11?) or perhaps.. I can self-tap, leaving the piggy open and blow through the metal it produced. I dunno, seems like either air or oil I have to hope to get it all out with the piggy or back it out and flush it, right? Can't self-tap without metal going someplace. Hate to waste all this oil.
  22. I think you are talking about a 1-time, oversized self-tapping. and I hear you. after watching some videos and realizing my metal errors, I'm concerned of getting more metal flakes. eg: I saw a video on help to keep metal out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dm_kNq6By5w I do not have a pulley setup, that'd be sweet. I was thinking to drain/jack/tap - reverse it, clean it or even try to blow. there would be some oil left, better than nothing? or do these self-taps make themselves 1-timers that if I reverse I run out of thread next time and end up leaking with a larger hole?
  23. also how? for shavings you'd have to drain. do you drive around with 3 quarts and drain dolly? side note for greasy/oily hands: what gloves? so far, I like the 7mil HF gloves about 14cents each
  24. this was an amazing thread to follow. congrats Jacob even if you did not sell it. great "internet" break-down and assist Frank 🤯 not sure I'll ever have the time to chase down and resolve these issues like ya'll did (and hope I do not). wish I was closer to buy the bikes ya'll work on/flip!! but JS, come on, no pics? maybe you were messing around with Frank whole time and no real bike? you a mech professor?
  25. to each their own. I would recommend HF/china to start only depending on your application. my needs are medium but infrequent. once I get a $10k can-am or something I really do not need, maybe I get the money winch. or if I knew I would be saving lives like @mikeexplorer, there's no price on a life saving winch!
