  1. Should be about 10-15 ft pds.
  2. I usually use a gasket scraper that holds a razor blade to get under the old gasket to get it off. Then get the remains with a dremmel with brass wire brush. Then go over the surface with 400 grit sanding drum with dremmel getting it really smoothe. Then rub the surface down by hand with 600 grit and brake clean to remove any oil left behind. I then put a very thin coat of Hondabond#4 on the gasket inside mating surface to hold it in place while i put things back together. Probably an overkill but i dont want gaskets to leak. They arent cheap and i dont want to have to redo it, been there done that.
  3. I agree, it appears to have a Chen Yang 150cc engine on it, at least you know who made the engine, so maybe you can find parts.
  4. Welcome, Dirt bikes are a lot of fun , and the Vinson is a great Quad. Hope you enjoy the site. Lot of great people very willing to help.
  5. Oh no those measurments are not necessary i just do them out of curiosity. The standard new piston to cylinder cleaarance is around.002 so not far off, not sure of the service limit on your machine. I did notice there are quite a few scratches on the piston on photo #3 they look fairly prominant but it may be the lighting hard to judge. Looking at the last photo the larger valve seems to be riding low in the seat which tells me the sealing surface may be quite worn, it does appear to be sealing good all the way around so maybe not a problem and it may be just Kawaski valve, but the smaller valve looks normal just carboned up. dont see too many of those Bayous, they are good machines, definately worth getting going. I would consider replacing the piston also you usually get a better deal on getting a matching piston and ring set anyway, just part of my OCD i feel like i get a better fit if piston and rings come from the same manufacturer, probaby not.
  6. After you adjusted the valves did it help the compression at all.
  7. You dont have to do that with the old rings, since you are putting in new rings anyway, i just always do to see how bad the old ones are. I do check the new ring gap to make sure it is within specs and if not I know I have cylinder wear. Water is not the best way to see if valves are leaking, no pressure. When ever i have one torn down this far i go ahead and remove the valves replace the oil seals and clean up the valve and seat good then lap the valves with valve grinding compound to make sure they have a good sealing surface.
  8. What you need to do is take the rings off the piston put them in the cylinder one at a time and measure the ring gap it should be between 15 and 19 thousant gap. I still think you should have more compression than that even with worn rings, if broken thats a different story, i would take a closer look at the valves. The exhaust looks like it not seating correctly, could be the angle of the photo but i would check it out. They dont look bad though i have seen a lot worse
  9. Hope that helps. Good luck!

  11. I have seen this happen more often than it should. Yes, put it back together if the washer still fits good on the broken end of drum. Also put red locktight on it, but if you ever need to get it off again you have to heat it up to melt the locktight.
  12. If this is a new aftermarket carb they are not allways a perfect fit you may have to adjust the cable to get the length you need or shorten the elbow. Is this also an OEM cable or aftermarket.
  13. From your test it sounds like your valves and rings are leaking. Did you adjust your valves. If they are too tight they could be held open causing your top leak.
  14. That sounds like a fun project, glad you decided to revive it, definately worth the attention, first thing i would do is get the ignition circuit working and see if the engine runs. It sounds like it has been parted out for some reason with so many parts missing.
  15. That low i would suspect a stuck valve or at least one that is not closing all the way.
  16. Is your fill plug toward the back of the engine under the exhaust and next to the shock! Kind of hard to get to. If so it does take 3500 cc of oil with the filter change, but if you can see it in the sight glass it shouldnt come out the fill hole. I think the z250 only takes the 2200cc of oil. Just wondering if your engine might have been changed or does it say 3500cc on the engine.
  17. That vent hose routes under the seat and comes out close to the main air intake not sure on the 85 this is from a Yamaha the two holes are for the vent lines.
  18. You should have 12 volts on the red wire going to the keyswitch, when you turn the keyswitch on voltage goes to the start button when you press the button sends voltage to the starter to rotate the engine. If it is starting you do have voltage or it wouldnt start. Not sure what the .6 and .8 is, do you mean less than 1 volt. But from the looks of the switch you either need to dig deeper and clean up the contacts or replace the switch.
  19. Breather hoses not being hooked up will not cause it to burn oil, you may see smoke coming out of the hoses from ring blow by , a bad oil seal would cause more oil to get into the rotor and stator as you described earlier. Its an 85 im sure all the seals are getting pretty brittle especially if it has sat up for a while.
  20. Agreed! It was interesting so many different sizes are available. More than likely it was never rejetted when the pipe was added, i wouldnt pull the carbs just to check that unless you are having problems, although it would be interesting to see whats in it.
  21. Thats great . I really liked those machines, sooo powerful. What year is yours.
  22. Jet sizes depending on the carb# is main jet #138 or #143, pilot jet is #40. This is based off of a 2004 model wasnt sure which model yours was.
  23. Sorry Brain glich! I should have figured that out. Not that much difference i would go with the 11s.
  24. Suzuki Twin Peaks 700, V Twin Water cooled, has 2 Keihin 32mm carbs cant remember the stock jet sizes. It was the same as the Kawasaki Praire 700 only the Suzuki version was yellow. Does it still have the original Keihin Carbs.
  25. I would not be opposed to putting an 11 on there and im a stickler for OEM sizes, but 1 inch is not that much difference, just to make sure i would check the clearance in the front with the wheels turned all the way left and right.
