  1. Im in the process of rebuilding a Kei Hin carburetor, OEM doesnt seem to offer a kit. Have any of you guys used an aftermarket carb kit with good results, if so which brand would you suggest. I have looked at some of the better brands All Balls, Tusk, and Buffalo. Any comments on any of these kits.
  2. I know the feeling I thought I had found all mine and today I found one back by the rear diff, thought it was diff vent but it already had another on it, tracing that one, it wasn't doing much it was filled with mud, in fact all of mine were filled with mud, so back to the service manual.
  3. How do you like the quad now that you have it running. Not sure iv ever seen one.
  4. Doing some checking today, lights all work glad to see that, low beam out on one of the headlights, tail light works, plug the fan motor back in and it didn't come on , and its not supposed too, but it was before, and I was trying to remember, I don't think I had the electrical system all hooked up when that was happening, so I may be alright, that would be good because that controller ia a 170.00 part. Hooked the winch cables to the battery and got a nice light show, so some problems there, I am going to have to double check all the wiring on the winch relay, something is shorted. So everything else seems to be working now +++++.
  5. Glad you got it sorted out, it looks good and sounds like its running good.
  6. The clutch basket should just slide off, it's good that the shift drum is turning freely, does it feel like its going in to a gear or just turning freely. With everything together and you shift the gearshift does the linkage turn the shift drum to a gear or do nothing.
  7. Does the starter work good no dragging or sluggishness, it sound like you have a grounding issue with the starter installed, see if you can track it down, reinstall the battery and relay and leave the starter out and see if it sparks. The starter could be internally grounded.
  8. Sorry I missed your comment, yes I think your two wires are in the highlighted area.
  9. That would certainly do it, im surprised you dindt have gas running out, glad you got it sorted out.
  10. Sometimes the shifter gets corroded under the rubber boot and doesnt want to move fluidly, and the little metal tab doesnt clear the locking mechanism to make the shifter move, don't know if that's what's happening with yours, but its something to check.
  11. I was afraid of that, sorry I steered you wrong, the ones I have worked on have been left handed threads, also the manual I looked in said left handed threads, glad you got it out.
  12. I thought that was a very helpful diagram ,too bad they didn't include the wire colors, I wish I would have had a diagram like that when I was rewiring my yamaha. At least it narrowed down to 3 places.
  13. Thats what I was afraid of, 24v impact should have taken that off, maybe all were not left handed threads.
  14. Thanks Mech, I will do that , I have a few loose ends to check out, plug the fan back in, see if I can chase that down, fan runs all the time when key is on, check lights, and see if its charging, that will finish it up, then on to my next project, its going to be interesting.
  15. They can get weak , but I hate to see you spend the money if yours isn't bad, does your quad have a CDI box, I haven't been able to find a service manual for that engine, if you have one it would tell you the if it has a CDI it should be about .12 OHM on the primary and around 6 on the secondary. If it doesnt have a CDI OHM ratings will be higher.
  16. I went out and rode the Big Bear again today I had to pull my trailer around to the back of the property, ran flawlessly and pulls like a mule, but I noticed this yesterday after it warms up smoke starts coming out from under the seat, at first I thought it was just oil burning off where I took the exhaust leg saver off, but it should have burned off by now, unless lots of oil got in the pipe, I did soak it heavily when freeing up the engine, and it seems to get worse the more I run it. Then I thought maybe there is a pin hole in the exhaust pipe there but that couldn't be it because it not smoking out the back. So im not sure where it's coming from yet, any thoughts.
  17. You might double check to make sure it is left handed threads the ones I worked on were but there are so many models out there you never know, but I would think all the engines would be the same. I would think a 24 volt impact would do it, I get most everything off with an 18 volt dewalt but it a big powerful 1/2 inch one. One other thing there is a locking tab on the nut you have to bend up to unlock the nut.
  18. Update: I sprayed my plastics with rattle can clear engine enamel looked really good, spilled I drop of brake fluid on when I was doing the master cylinder, it took it right off, so not a good choice, I figured engine enamel would be better for fluid spills, but it is not, I guess if you use it on your engine be careful not to let gas leak on it.
  19. Oh Ok I thought you were talking about the large tube, smaller ones are easier. I had some of the smaller ones also didn't have to replace them just figure out where they went and route them accordingly, and the OEM large hose had a grommet for them to fir into.
  20. Your welcome, always glad to do what I can to help.
  21. Sorry to hear that have you checked the coil for proper resistance, may be weak not getting a clean burn. If your timing was off you should be getting a backfire or at least a weird popping sound, not sure on that engine there should be timing marks where you can check that.
  22. Didd you check to see if the switch was working with ohm meter.
  23. The clutch adjustment according to service manual, loosen the lock nut, turn to the left until you feel resistance and then turn to the right 1/8 of a turn. Turning to the left loosens clutch and right tightens.
