  1. The only thing that I would say to be aware of with the kawie 450 is the stock ecu is junk and unless stored in neutral the battery will drain and have starting issues. You'll just be sitting there cranking a while. Save up the $300 and get a ProCom ecu that way you'll solve the starting and battery issue. Plus if you decide to add a pipe or intake later all you do is turn the dial on it and away you go no need for the dyno.
  2. definitely try to do what mike said and try to test ride what you want. But choosing between a 400 or a 450 is a tough choice. One thing to consider is most of the 450s are now fuel injected except for the honda. This way if you change in elevation you don't have to mess with the carb just hop on and ride. The kawie 450 does have reverse and is known as a good trail/woods quad and I am not saying that just cause I own one. But if you decide to put the big 3 (pipe, intake, and fuel controller) on it you most likely need to take it to a dyno to get it mapped to make it run at its full potential instead of just changing a jet in the carb. The Honda 400ex is still consider one of the best trail sport quads and even with the new body style on the honda the engine and tranny on those have not changed through out the years, and you can find an abundant of aftermarket parts for them.
  3. Maybe that or I know an abundant of people who can't read instructions:confused:
  4. it was a blast, I just wish that guy with the green kawie didn't sleep through his alarms so we had more time to ride....oh wait that was me:aargh:.......still was a blast though hopefully we can go out next weekend again.
  5. Well that depends Dale do you have the other two parts of your big three?....you know, venom head, venom pipe, and venom stickers:laugh:
  6. I thought it was for every sticker you add on it adds an additional 5 hp, good thing I have a few
  7. When I do ride a 4x4, its a 2006 350 honda rancher all time 4-wheel drive all stock except for a 1500lbs winch. first atv my family has bought. Usually I use it for rock crawling and trail riding, but I do use it for some skills races (times obstacle course).
  8. I've seen two different guys on yfz's with rekluse clutches lock up in 1st gear while racing. Blame it on improper install on them but I know with the kawi 450 there's been a few that have done the same thing, never heard a reason why though. And the only reason I really say hinson is cause a lot of race teams use it. Granted they ridiculously expensive but if they can hold up to racers abuse it should hold up to our.
  9. you might to try over at kfx450hq. there are some kfx450r gurus over there who have done the testing and should be able to give you an answer.
  10. For the cost of the rekluse I would save a little more and get a hinson basket instead. Rekluses are nice but I haven't met anyone with one that worked properly.
  11. Well my plans changed:realmad: I am not going to make it this weekend I gotta work
  12. State Championship is this weekend. Whos all coming down?
  13. no doubt I had the pcIII and now I got the procom ecu that modifies the fuel mapping and timing. unfortunately there's no push button option but it has 10 pre set map on it and you can go on their site and get more map their website. Or you can take it to the dyno and have them modify one of the set maps.
  14. We're not Crazy Dale:laugh:Maybe a little off, but not crazy. :elefant:
  15. Only if this damn snow would quit coming down so we can go ride. I am itching to ride the 700.
  16. Sweet!!! Then here's me diving in to a corner last weekend ice racing.
  17. Do we have to be ours or can we put links to what others have taken of us?
  18. Cool I didn't know, everyone I know runs either the Power Commander line or Procom.
  19. Going back to this one if you're looking for trying to find an intake cheaper I think tech quad shop is still having a sale on fuel custom intakes. But when you're talking $250-$300 for an intake granted its a chunk of change it's worth every penny. If I look in my garage I think I might have a k&N replacement filter for the stock air box running around.
  20. If I had more time off from work. You're damn right I would put something together like this. If it even exists damn pipe dream rides.
  21. There was a guy who dynoed all three intakes on kfx450hq one time but I can't remember what each gain was. I do think though that you can get 5 hp gain with the intake easily cause the stock one is so restrictive. Remember all the numbers are based off of a stock quad and you might not get exactly 5 more if not close to it. One thing to keep in mind, if you decide to go with a aftermarket intake, does the fuel controller you're running have enough adjustment to make your quad run properly.
  22. the K&n makes one that claims 4.5 hp increase, fuel custom intake FCI claims 6 hp gain over stock. The air-intake is very restrictive you'll be surprised in what you'll gain with an after market one.
  23. maybe after I get my head port and polished with a new piston I'll be able to beat your quad dale......maybe:wink:
  24. I run the fuelatv.com air eliminator intake (no air box) but like others I am finding out they're junk. Go with fuel custom's intake (FCI) bigger intake and made better. A stock intake on these are the worse thing for them after the airbox that 5" diameter filter makes a 90degree tun and converts into a damn near 1"x3" rectangle then back to the 36mm throttle body. Be prepared for a 5+ hp gain just by changing the intake and get your quad dynod after this if you search on other forums you can ask guys to send you there maps to run if you're running the same fuel controller. What fuel controller are you running on your kfx450? PCIII; PCV; or the procom?
