2005 Suzuki LTZ 250 Quadsport Driveshaft U-Joint

I just picked up a 05 LTZ 250 Quadsport 2wd and the u-joint in the driveshaft is shot. I have replaced u-joints in automobiles many times but never on an atv. I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers. 1st I need to know how to get the driveshaft out to replace the u-joint. On vehicles you remove the bolts from the pinion flange and slide the driveshaft out of the tail of the tranny and theres you shaft removal. Unfortunetly the wheeler is not setup like that. If someone can help that would be great.

From what I can tell, the shaft needs to be un bolted from inside the case. There is a nut that holds the drive gear onto the shaft. It looks like there is a small side cover that comes off so you can access the end of the shaft and the drive gear attatched to it. Once you are in there, you may just be able to pull the shaft out without taking the pinion nut off. There is also a circlip that holds the u-joint on the shaft on the output side. Look up your model on this parts fische and look up the secondary drive, and the crankcase diagrams. You will see what I am talking about.

Thanks for the replies guys. :) The u-joint was so bad and had so much play in it that I actually was able to remove the circlips and use a hammer and old flat head screw driver and push the caps back out of the ears on the shafts. Once the u-joint was out the out put shaft slid out of the tranny and the drive shaft slid out of the rearend. I cleaned up all the splines with a wire brush and before I put it back together I'll grease all of the splines. When I put the new u-joint in I'll put shafts back in place and install the u-joint with the shafts in place. I think they may have designed it to be done this way anyways. I can't image having to take the rearend apart to change a u-joint. Sometimes I think they design things to be difficult so we have to take our stuff to the dealer to keep them in business. Again thanks for the help guys. I will update once the part comes in and I get it installed.

I was wondering if that would work, it seemed like they must have put that clip in there for convenient access to the joint, I really didn't see any other reason for it. But it seems like nothing is conveniently engineered anymore, I know nothing on my LTR is convenient. I have to remove the fuel tank just to change the spark plug.

It seemed to work for me. The new joint will be in today so we'll see how it goes when I try installing it that way. The whole removing the tank to replace a plug is exactly the kind of stuff I'm talking about. If they made it easy to do everybody could do it and nobody would bring their stuff to the shop.

That rearend is the same as the Ozarks, so please check the rearend bearings to. I had to replace all the bearings and U joints in the some shot. Almost forgot check the seals to. That rearend does not like water at all.

The u-joint is in and you were right the bearings are shot. I drained and replaced the diff fluid to be sure it was free of water. Now I need a few pointers on changing the bearings. Do to the bearings being bad when I turn the machine I get a grinding/crunching noise from the back end. I think it is because with the bad bearings the axel twists a bit when turning. If someone can maybe guide me in the directions of a rear bearing change write up that would be great.

I looked at the microfiche and it looks pretty straight forward. I'll need to get a good pair if circlip removal pliers because there looks to be one on each side that will need to be removed. Just waiting to get some extra cash to order the parts. I will keep you posted.

I'm sure I'll have another wheeler again someday so I'll be back. I did not fix it. I was going to order the parts but discovered it not only needed the rear axle bearings but also brakes all the way around and a battery. I traded it to a guy who restores old bikes and wanted a four wheeler to fix up. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on it because I felt it was a bit to small for me. Not the engine size it had plenty of power but the actual size of the machine. They are geared more towards people that are a bit smaller in stature. I'm 6'0" and 235lbs. I looked a like a monkey screwing a football when I was on it. I traded it for a 1986 XL250R that is alot taller and longer which made it a better fit for me. Here's a couple pics.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

My uncle bought a Baja 250, 2006. Knew there was no spark since the get go. He don't know anything about quads so is getting me to help him try to get it running...

battery is bad so I connected battery charger to it to crank it over , cranks over well , but no spark ....
Lights and everything work fine , but with each crank over using the e start switch , the display reads 999 888 777 666 ... Right down to 000 and repeats itself .

He managed to get a parts bike , I changed over the CDI and the coil and the stator from the parts bike and there was another black box by the voltage regulator I changed over ... I used my multimeter to confirm as much as I could works , it's hard without knowing which wires are which , and I cannot find any diagrams online for this bike ?

Do you think it could be the Killswitch? There's so many wires coming from there I don't know where to start . Also I should mention it appears the fan on the front of the bike has been taken off (the wires have been cut too )

If this bike sparked it would run . The previous owner said he parked it one day and it just wouldn't start after.

I have a 1988 Quadrunner 250 2wd. My brother in law sold it to my son for $20...had been sitting outside for several years. Got it home and had it running in about 30 mins. Ran it a bit and then went to looking at the carb as it was having trouble idling. Was getting it pretty close, then started losing spark...Also, it wouldn't start up every time...only about 1 in 5 tries. Anyway...now, it has what I can only describe as "intermittent" spark. I can get 1 light spark right when the start button is pressed and sometimes one when it's released...but none while cranking. 🤷‍♂️

I have replaced the spark plug, ignition coil/wire, and traced wires best I can. I noticed a couple frayed wires at the pickup coil where it enters the case. So, now I have the cover off, stator and pickup coil out and trying to test the coil. I do have about 114 ohms resistance for pickup best I can tell. And I can read minute voltage when I drag a magnet across it. Could it still be bad? Can a bad ignition switch/button cause this? (I did have the switch off to oil the choke cable)...pulling rope makes no difference though...any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!! It's the intermittent part that's throwing me off!

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.
