2001 Arctic Cat 250 4X4 -- NO SPARK, PLEASE HELP

Recommended Posts

Usually I never ask for help on the Internet, but this thing has me stumped. 2001 Arctic Cat 250 4x4, I bought it from a friend, he said it ran good a week before he sold it to me. I have taking apart all the plastic/ racks. I have no spark to this machine at all. I have replaced Two ignition coils, checked the Harness for any bad spots, checked all fuses/ replaced them just because. Changed spark plug, changed Two CDI boxes, Good battery, I have checked and bi passed all neutral safety switches, and still no spark. I hooked up my Multimeter on the single wire coming into the coil and I'm getting about two volts pulsating when using the push button starter, I have also tried pull starting, and still nothing. Please if you could help me in some way in would be appreciated.. Thank you

Well I thought the same thing so I took it apart and checked the magnets on the flywheel, I was going to replace the stator, and my local dealer tells me, don't replace the stator because it has nothing to do with it starting or firing. He tells me it only charges the battery and keeps it up while it's running. Is he full of crap.?

Well I checked all the plugs, pulled all the tape off the harness, cleaned thoroughly. Didn't see anything bad. My neutral light and reverse light won't light up on the dash. But I have tried bypassing all the neutral safety switches, and still nothing.

Sounds like some of the issues I've run into before and it's always the simplest thing and you'll feel stupid and like an idiot for overlooking it when you do find the problem. The problem I've had similar to this was a kill wire grounded or a kill switch. You might just have a key switch that kills it along with a kill switch that is in the off position.... find all kill wires and disconnect them. If it starts right up you'll know how crazy you are for overlooking the simple answer.

I know, I feel that its something simple, I have tried bypassing all kill switches, including the one on the handle bars and all the neutral safety witches.. This thing is irritating lol.. Unless the CDI boxes I purchased are no good, that's all I can think of.

I'm not at all familiar with Artic cat but every small engine I've ever food with (a few thousand, including outboard motors) has a kill wire that goes to the igniter or whatever you want to call that box the spark plug wires come out of. If it is grounding the circuit which produces the spark then it ain't gonna spark. Disconnect the sucker and see what happens.... if that gives you spark then work back from there. It could be the kill wire in the switch or the switch itself having a short in it. I've been through this several times on old outboard motors.

Hello, im looking for some input on this situation i have. My 94 Mojave has no spark, and i have no idea what it is. Ive replaced/tested the magneto, the pickup coil, cdi, the ignition coil. Even the key and Killswitch. I haven't tested the harness its self, but i have tried another harness and still nothing. The only thing i can think of is the fly wheel itself. I have found a lot of metal shavings in the fly wheel and have cleaned it the best I could. But nothing happened afterwards. I am truly stumped here and hoping some of yous could shed some knowledge/ideas that could help get this thing to fire.

I see quite a few ads for that  Tribotex additive. It's kind of expensive, has anyone used it it their ATV or any other vehicle?

My uncle bought a Baja 250, 2006. Knew there was no spark since the get go. He don't know anything about quads so is getting me to help him try to get it running...

battery is bad so I connected battery charger to it to crank it over , cranks over well , but no spark ....
Lights and everything work fine , but with each crank over using the e start switch , the display reads 999 888 777 666 ... Right down to 000 and repeats itself .

He managed to get a parts bike , I changed over the CDI and the coil and the stator from the parts bike and there was another black box by the voltage regulator I changed over ... I used my multimeter to confirm as much as I could works , it's hard without knowing which wires are which , and I cannot find any diagrams online for this bike ?

Do you think it could be the Killswitch? There's so many wires coming from there I don't know where to start . Also I should mention it appears the fan on the front of the bike has been taken off (the wires have been cut too )

If this bike sparked it would run . The previous owner said he parked it one day and it just wouldn't start after.
