It sounds like something is back feeding power into the ignition circuit somehow. Maybe an accessory? Plow lights of some sort ? I would get a tester and see what wire gets power at the ignition plug when you turn  the ignition off and trace that back.  Also check the entire harness for damage. Wires get hit all the time or areas where the harness is rubbing against the frame of the bike wear away the tape and insulation. After that i would start checking the stator coil, regulator, and secondary coil with a tester for proper ohms that’s shown in the repair manual. If you are not sure how do do that we can kinda walk you through it or check on YouTube as well it’s very helpful

The new ignition switch is wrong switch. This just happened to me. I bought the cheap $10 one on ebay or amazon. The correct switch should be normally open on both circuits where as the cheap new one I bought is normally open on one circuit and normally closed on the other (which is the way many other atv ignition switches work). One circuit is to turn positive battery power on and off, the other circuit is a ground wire for the CDI. I corrected the issue by connecting the two wires for the CDI circuit. The ignition switch is now only used to turn on and off battery power, it does not kill the engine. The only way to kill the engine now is to use the kill switch.

The only part you need is a OEM ignition switch.

On mine, all I did was hack into the wiring thats part of the faulty ignition switch, I did not hack into the atv wiring harness

If you are really good with switches, you can try to disassemble and clean the switch, usually its just the contacts that get corroded or dirty. My switch showed 150 ohms of resistance on the cdi side when it should be under 1 ohm

Or if you want to be getto, you could use two seperate switches. Use the old switch if it still has a one good circuit and the new switch for the other circuit

Ya I had my buddy test everything else on it and put the cdi on his and his didn't have any spark either so figured it was shot his works and I get spark but he rides his often so can't take his lol

Do you have a multimeter? measure resistance on main switch, black to black/red, and red to brown. Both should have continuity when switch is on and no continuity when switch is off

Ok got it running but issue is the reverse and neutral light are on at the same time and when I try to put it in reverse it dies and no reverse at all on it got a spare motor I was going to swap but wanted some input first

My guess is there is a problem  between the reverse switch that  turns on your reverse  light  and the  neutral  safety switch. I think you might find that  light grounding through the  neutral  safety  switch  and  killing the  engine. I would  look for  the  wires  shorted  or possibly  misconnected.

Bought a 88 big bear 350 4x4 took it for a run and lost spark, found it was stator so I replaced that then took it for a long run and it sat for 2 days and no spark again, this time stator tests good on ohms and voltage for source and pick up coils so I started replacing things including regulator, ignition, ignition coil and plug cap, spark plug and everything tests great including all safety switches until the orange wire for ignition coil from the cdi it only reads 3 volts so I replaced the cdi and still 3 volts, any ideas??

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hello all, I have a 2006 Polaris Sawtooth with no spark. It has a dead battery but with a jump pack on it, it will still not Spark. Plug is good, Throttle ETC is not closed, Stator pick up coil seems to Ohm out in the correct range, Unsure how to properly check the CDI. And when ignition is on the Neutral and reverse light come on but after cranking just the neutral stays on.

      Any help would be great,

      Thanks!

My 1992 TRX00 recently stopped firing.  I understand this is a common problem. I have ordered an aftermarket CDI unit.    TJ

Hey all, new to the forum! I just bought a 1998 Kawasaki bayou 300, 4x4 not running. Initially I found no spark. Ended up playing with the plug wire (made sure plug top and wiring was touching) and got spark yesterday and the quad fired up off ether. Come to work on it today and now no spark again. Before I got spark and now today if I touch the plug after cranking I get shocked, and it will spark after I release the starter button. I was jumping the quad with a freshly charged car battery that has 12v while cranking. Cleaned out the kill switch and ignition button. All looks good. Purchased new plugs. They're are a lot of wires cut/ disconnected. But shouldn't matter if I got spark without them connected...
