Was that a 2 stroke? Can't remember. I would assume fresh rings and good seating would be more like 150 psi, I would think 100 PSI would be about the low end.  I had a 4 stroke Bayou 220 that ran like a champ with 80 psi but that's a 4 stroke....

If compression is at 90 I'd think that's about low enough to keep it from sucking fuel in and running right...if running at all.

ya its a 2 stroke ,  Well took it apart and the jug looks bit beat up and the piston is not so good looky .. all scratched and and ruff .. looks like it was run with bad mix..  well it did sit at a hunting camp for over 20 years in a garage  not being used . sad thing ,  has less then 500 miles on it . time for a top end rebuild .

That scaring on the skirt doesn't look that bad as the rings look pretty smooth.  If the cylinder wall isn't toast a quick refresh with a hone and some new good rings and i bet it runs like a champ.  I'd probably even buff out the piston skirt and reuse since OEM is always better than repop.  The scratches may just be years of sitting and then the carbon deposits flaking off when trying to fire it.  I've seen worse run. :)

I am always a fan of @MarkinAR but there is now way in hell i would have all that apart and not put a new piston and rings in.  Although Mark is  right about trying to find an oem piston however Wiseco makes a great quality piston that should last a long time.

Point taken @Frank Angerano.  The reason I was thinking recycle the piston is that the skirt never touches anything, it's just there to let oil pass to the rings.  Hell, if the skirt touched anything it would be tragic!  But with pistons, even Wiseco, not really being that big of an investment...it's probably better safe than sorry.

I recently read an article about restoring or at least improving the looks of faded and discolored plastic body parts. In the article it suggested using a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. You mix it up and apply it with a brush or rag to rub it in and remove the oxidation. I curious to find out if anyone has had experience with doing this and what was their short/long term results of doing so. I would hate to try it and find out that a few weeks/months down the road my plastic body parts self destruct.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

I like to ride in wooded and grassy areas. It takes my mind off the everyday routines and helps me deal with my father's cancer. Also gives me a reason to get involved with forums like this one.
