Electric ATVs, Thoughts?

Recommended Posts

So we know tesla has an electric ATV coming, but have you seen these:

Thoughts?

I think most mainstream manufacturers will start developing over the next 5-10 years or sooner like Polaris.... "Continued investment in research and development to drive innovation for its riders, both within already established capabilities of ICE powertrains and drivelines, fit and finish, ride and handling, and an extensive accessories portfolio, along with emerging capabilities including making connected technology available across most of its powersports models by 2026 and furthering electric vehicle options with a strategic and targeted approach that centers on the customer. Polaris is testing electric prototypes broadly across its product platforms but will commercialize purposefully where electrification improves the customer experience."

I  would like to  see some of the new battery technology they're working on pan  out with  more capacity and less chance of fire if they get wet.

If worried about running out of juice leaving you stranded,  a small generator  could be carried. It would take some time to  get any amount of juice but it could limp you  back   Some SXS's have enough room for a couple of roof top  solar panels. LOL  Wouldn't get you very far , very  fast , but.......

I think they'll have lots of torque, but who knows. I would incorporate some sort of solar panels since most riding is daytime I would think.  For most riders with ICE, you still need to plan for gas, so I guess you can plan for electric energy. Don't ride more than 1/2 the battery capacity, so you can return home and plug it in ..🤣

Good point....fires. Crashes, water...all possible issues.

  • 2 weeks later...

My quad only gets used a few hours at a time and only actually running for a few minutes in those hours, a few times a week mostly, and never more than a mile or two away from home. So, even though(or perhaps because) I'm on solar power, I'd have one.

It would be easy enough to load a tiny generator on the rack if I wanted to go up ninety mile beach, and I'd just have to stop and enjoy the remoteness while I waited to get rolling again. Or.. I could mount a big generator and run it like a hybrid.. haha.

      Hi everyone.
Let me explain the thread title.
My husband and I are very active in the nudist community, and we have stayed at many and most of the mainstream nudist and clothing optional campgrounds in the USA. We are now approaching our retirement and would like to start a podcast to share those off the road / backwoods / little known camping areas where nudity is allowed. We have purchased a 5th wheel camping trailer with a rear garage for the ATV and now need some good reports on the one to buy.
We are most interested in a side by side unit but would love to get your thoughts.
Feel free to stop by and say Hi and ask anything you would like to better understand what we are looking for in an offroad unit.
Thanks for reading and hope to hear from you.

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

It starts and runs Ok but after a while the temp gage lights up and the fan fails to start.  Any suggestions on where to start looking would be helpful.  Thanks
