2002 Suzuki Vinson replacement fuel tank and fuel gauge

So just acquired this 2002 Suzuki Vinson LT-A500F and am in the beginning process of getting it to run.  I found two small screw size holes in the top of the tank, it would appear someone was not careful screwing something down to the plastic cover and accidently damaged the tank. My preface is to replace the tank but I am not finding any available, so can anyone give me any advise on this. If I do not find a suitable one at a reasonable price I will look at possible doing a epoxy type repair on this one.

Next is the fuel gauge, its missing and is creating another hole in the tank. I found this ONE which looks like it on ebay but the seller does not include any dimensions to verify.  So any advise on this will be greatly appreciated as well.

I did see the post on changing the fuel petcock with the Yamaha on/off valve which I have ordered already.

I just saw the mention about including your year/make info in the title, so sorry I will do that in the future. I did include that info in the first line of the post if that gets me any brownie points!

I do not see an edit button to so I am posting to see if anyone knows somewhere on line I could down load a free copy of the owners manual and a service manual would be great also.

  • Ajmboy changed the title to 2002 Suzuki Vinson replacement fuel tank and fuel gauge

Gas tank is easily repairable , with epoxy putty, but you can get new for about 225.00 and they are on eBay but I would buy new before I paid their prices. Tank cover is 110 for new, but I did see one on eBay that needs refinishing for 10.00 so you really have to look, and decide how much work you want to do plus the materials to refinish aren't cheap. Gas gauge new is about 100 , amazon might have an aftermarket that will fit. Just my experience from buying parts.

Sorry I just am not having the same luck. I repaired the gas tank by riveting the hole and putting some sealer rated for gasoline over it. I never did get a reply from the ebay seller so I just went a head and ordered the gauge. Everything should be here next week then I will put the machine back together and see if it will start. If all goes well with that I will start looking for an inexpensive snow plow which is why I got this machine in the first place.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok the fuel gauge from Ebay showed up and I installed it today. Fit and works just fine, the tank has been full of fuel for the last week with no sigs of leaks so far from my repair or the new fuel valve. The quad started up with no problems and seem to runs good. Although there is what I would call a higher pitch noise coming from somewhere when I am moving, will have to chase that down .  I went ahead and changed all the fluids, installed a battery tender and have placed an order for replacement rear brake pads as they were quite thin and a Kolpin atv switchblade plow .  I also noted the right outside front axle boot is torn. Have not looked to see if they make a replacement boot or if the axle will have to be replaced.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond to my questions. Big motorcycle fan all my life and never thought I would own a quad but that parking lot at work is just getting to be a little much with a snow blower so hoping this machine makes that job easier and faster!

I have a 1988 Quadrunner 250 2wd. My brother in law sold it to my son for $20...had been sitting outside for several years. Got it home and had it running in about 30 mins. Ran it a bit and then went to looking at the carb as it was having trouble idling. Was getting it pretty close, then started losing spark...Also, it wouldn't start up every time...only about 1 in 5 tries. Anyway...now, it has what I can only describe as "intermittent" spark. I can get 1 light spark right when the start button is pressed and sometimes one when it's released...but none while cranking. 🤷‍♂️

I have replaced the spark plug, ignition coil/wire, and traced wires best I can. I noticed a couple frayed wires at the pickup coil where it enters the case. So, now I have the cover off, stator and pickup coil out and trying to test the coil. I do have about 114 ohms resistance for pickup best I can tell. And I can read minute voltage when I drag a magnet across it. Could it still be bad? Can a bad ignition switch/button cause this? (I did have the switch off to oil the choke cable)...pulling rope makes no difference though...any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated!!! It's the intermittent part that's throwing me off!

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

Howdy y'all, I'm trying to fix a neighbors 2015 Brute Force 300. Came in with hard to start and won't idle except on choke issue. I pulled the carb and found the pilot jet as well as the emulsion tube partially clogged. Cleaned up everything, put it back together, still having issues...  It will start right up on choke and will also start off choke if you give it just a touch of throttle but it absolutely will not idle unless it's choked just a touch. Also, excuse my ignorance but I'm assuming the "dial" thingy attached to the carb that turns in and out is for setting idle??

Hello everyone, I just picked up an 02 LT-F250F the other day and have been in the process of tearing it down to fix some stuff- one of which was the cylinder base gasket leaking like a sieve. Well, I know why that is now, and I also discovered that someone had been in there before. I didn't take pictures, but it looks like it was probably run low on oil at some point, the cam journals and the "bearings" (for lack of a better term) in the head and the valve cover are totally wiped out, very deep grooves.  From what I know it's very difficult to repair aluminum in this way, so I'm trying to figure out where to go next.

      1. Have someone grind down the head and valve cover and fit actual bearings in since the aluminum is screwed, and have the cam ground down to match.  I have no idea what this would cost.
      2. Buy a replacement head+cam+valve cover.

#1 I was hoping someone might have some advice on, but #2 seems like it'll (probably) be the more cost effective option.  However I'm running into some difficulty, it seems like the 2001 and 2002 models specifically use a different head part number,  11100-19B10, instead of  11100-19B01 like for all earlier models.  What exactly is the difference between them? There are obviously far more of the earlier heads because it ran for over 10 years.  Are they actually interchangeable? I've also noticed there are heads from the LT250EF that has 4 valve heads but also otherwise look identical.  Would those work as well possibly?  I'd like to not have to drop $500 on machine work or new heads on a $1300 quad that I'm already putting a bunch of new parts on.  Oh, and it has a new piston and the cylinder itself looks pretty good too, as I said someone was in here before me.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I'll post pics of the carnage tomorrow.
