OK, I bought a blaster for my wife. It's in great shape but it falls flat early on top end. It seems the worst in 1st and 2nd gear. As you get up through the gears it seems to be a bit better. I have pulled the carb and cleaned it. It didn't help at all.

Can anyone tell me what the stock jet sizes are? Also, what should the mixture settings be for a bone stock Blaster? I am at 5000 feet in New Mexico

If anyone knows another reason, please speak up.

Thanks for the help. I'll take the carb off and check the jet sizes. It seems to be leaning out and falling flat on the top end.

What part of Mass are you from? I grew up in Haverhill

It's a 2001. What should the compression read? I have a tester just not a damn manual ! Anyone know where there is one online?

Thanks for the info on the airbox lid. This thing is in great shape. It just annoys the crap out of me that I can't get it in tune

My KFX seems to do fine at this altitude, just minor tweeking

Sorry got to thinking about it, its most likly not compression, do a plug chop to see if you are running rich or lean, also what is your needle set on?

I need to check the needle setting. I just pulled the carb apart and cleaned everything. Like a dumb as*, I didn't write any of the settings or jet sizes down before I reassembled it. I'll check the plug again too. I just went and replaced it when I bought the quad

Just out of curiosity, what should the compression read? I just want to check it.

my DAD is famous for the barrel chariot....

is this pick on r8 day?

by the way, it's off topic, so let's put it back on topic.

I've known Stuart since I lived in california, shortly after the dinosaurs died off. When the volcanoes cooled I moved to Oregon. I was having the exact same problem so I called him for advice. Here I am just passing on what he said. I have a lot more friends too.

For awhile there Toomey was talking about moving up here to be nearby Rob Muzzy as well as Powroll Ind. But I guess he changed his mind.

You could also think about regearing it. This will make it wind out more before shifting, especially in first and second gear. I have the same issue with my race blaster engine

the TOOMEY B1 kit not only is the pipe, but jets, airfilter, instructions, lots more stuff. on mine we changed the main jet from 230 to 320 and lifted the needle one step. Also used the unifilter in the kit and left the airbox lid off. IT WORKED GREAT!

If you cant fidure it out, we can call Toomey industries and ask them- they are very nice about helping people and they have a pretty cool website too.

anubis mentioned tires and that's a good point: the stockers SAY 20 but they are so balloonish they are actually 22 inch. I used ITP 20" XCR on the back and they are noticeably shorter- that solved my gearing problem.

let us know how it goes.

I have a set of 20" Innova's ready to throw on it already. I was really surprised how well they worked and held up on my KFX so I bought a set for the Blaster. I have been working 12 hour shifts and get home when it's dark so, I haven't had a chance to pull the airbox lid just yet. I'm going to do it this weekend and see how it goes

Well, pulling the lid worked like a champ for about 4 hours lol. We got a cold snap in the afternoon and it needed to run a richer mixture so, it went back on and runs like a champ again. I'll just have to pull it back off when the temp comes up. Thanks for the help

dude whe u get that thing running right make sure u run it at 32/1 and change the oil after every week . i also recomend drilling a hole into the rear axle carrier and putting in a grease fitting if it dont already have one

Why 32/1????? Why not 40 or 50???? With ANY Two Smoke....With proper Adjustments you can Run whatever you want....I have a 25 yr old Pinger that I run 50:1 in.....Runs like a top....Changing the oil weekly can get Expensive and there really isnt any need for that unless you are putting 50 hrs a week on it.....

What will Drilling a Whole in the Carrier do????? All you will have is a Greasy axle and no lube on the Bearings where you need it....Stick with the proper way to Grease the Carrier Bearings and you will be fine.....Hell,,,,,,Whenever Im in there I just replace them.....

This is just MY opinion though.....

I was looking to buy a new ATV.
I was debating between Polaris sportsman 450 and Honda rancher.
      Polaris it a bit cheaper.
But can you tell me which one will have more demand on the used market? Which one will keep it's value better?

Let's say 3-5 years from now.

I’m looking at replacing rear brake calipers on both of my blasters. I was told that the only thing available was a hydraulic upgrade? I’d prefer the original. Anyone?

Okay so I bought this 1997 sazuki king quad from a guy and he had it for a few years.
He had it registered and on the trails last year but he said it bogged and backfired when he would try to drive it. so it sat for a year.
I bought it for 800 bucks and got it running that night and it ran great for a few days
But I parked it the other night and went to start it again and it was really hard to fire up and when I did it was bogging and idling high then low again.
So I took the carb out and cleaned it (ended up doing it twice because it was still doing the same thing)
Now today I have it running slightly better, but it is still like 20%
I have been looking it up and trying to figure it out but I can't find the issue, has anyone else had this problem? I'll attach a video of it running and giving some throttle

'Gidday.  An issue I can't find discussed already - my Bear Tracker selects into 1st gear fine. Selects other forward gears fine too but all above 1st gear are slipping. Can select reverse but nothing engages/happens.
Any ideas what I might be dealing with?
      Cheers,  Jim.
