Well this started as gas going out the air box side of the carb all the way around in that hose and dumping gas all over the machine. I took the carb apart, cleaned it well and put it back together. I then adjusted the valves to make sure everything was kosher. When I took the cap off the bottom valve I was greated by 1/2 pint of gas with a little oil in it. So after adjusting valves and putting everything back together I changed the oil. Started it up and rode it for about a half an hour. No more gas spewing out of the air box hose. Let it sit overnight and went to start it. Wouldn't start, lifted the compression release and it started. Smelled like gas coming out of the exhaust again. What should I check? What is letting gas get into the cylinder?:skeptic:

Nope not flooding on start up. It was actually spewing gas out that hose that goes from the air box all the way up by the gas tank and then comes back to just below the air box while riding. I replaced the spring in the diaphram part of the carb, made sure the carb was cleaned good and all settings were per the service manual. We have 6000 miles on this machine and it has never been a problem up until now. If the float height is messed up would that allow gas to back flow into the air chamber????

not sure if it could cause that have you put in a new needle and seat. for the cost of one i would try that and check the float aswell. look to see if there is gas in the float aswell i have seen them fill with gas and mess up all the setting.

The family has two quads and have been asking where to ride around here- we are about 70 miles north of spokane and looking for places that are nice to go visit for beginners.
We have a 2003 Polaris sportsman, and a 2004 Artic Cat 2-up (I forget the size)

Have a 1998 AC 300 2x4, Just installed a new carburetor. Engine starts easy but the choke RPMs are very hi and take along time (5-10 mins when cold out). After engine has warmed up choke releases and it idles and runs fine., It does no have an electric choke. The choke lever is never used and it seems like an auto choke? Long story short, how can I lower the choke rpm levels?

Also, carb came with a spare145 jet, not 100% sure what is installed. Could this impact choke RPMs?

Any help and information greatly appreciated.

Does the pull rope have to be on the machine to get top dead TDC? The rope was gone on this one when I got it. Or, can a plastic tool be used in spark plug hole to feel for TDC on compression stroke? Thanks for all info! 🙂

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum. What I got is a 2001 Yamaha Bear Tracker 250, got it as a project on trade and the problem I’m dealing with is a “no spark” problem and been trying to hunt down the cause for two weeks. I’ve replaced the stator, pick up coil, CDI, wiring harness, ignition, coil pack, spark plug, solenoid, battery, etc. and I’m still not getting any luck. Even tried bypassing the kill switch. I also noticed two things on this quad, another CDI under the back plastic by the voltage regulator, and a blue and green wire coming from the motor behind  the foot shift, tried to hook it up but it broke off and I’m thinking the broken wire would cause it to have no spark, if not then I need someone’s help on this and wanna see if I can get spark again. If anyone knows why I have this problem, the help would be greatly appreciated.

So title tells all. achine was sitting for two years untouched.

I will post a picture with diagnostic path so far.

Replaced defective start solenoid, starter grinding but engaging.
Replaced all wiring in #1 splice with dark green, brown and red/white wires. Checked all other junctions.
Pull start works phenomenally and starts instantly.
Kill switch does absolutely nothing, but the key will stop the bike and allows it to start. Replaced key switch and pigtail at key switch. As of now all lighting is functional (was not before fixing it)

      The Good:
      -has new spark plug
      -valves were adjusted
      -key switch
-wiring appears in order after repair
      -display functioning
      -new battery
-always starts easily on pull rope
      -etc switch
      -pulsar coil
      - ignition coil
I am replacing the bendix due to intermittent failure and gapping the pulsar tonight. Also, replacing battery cables and unplugging kill wire from cdi to isolate. Replacing battery wires to starter and ground cable.
