I just bought a 2000 500 Scrambler that had been sitting for a couple of years. The guy that I bought if from told me that it would run fine but the carb has problems. I have worked for American Honda for years as a tech and am some what use to polaris and the way they do things and a carb job isn't a big deal. The machine is in remarkable shape for the year. Carb job went fine and runs like a top until I put it in gear it went about 2 inches and popped out back into neutral. This will do it every time doesn't make any diff. in drive or reverse. Is there anything I should check/adjust before I remove and tear down the transmission. Thank you so much everyone and I know someone has a fix for this issue Tom John in VA

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I did that yesterday and was able to get get reverse to stay but no change with forward. You can hear it click into place and it will stay there until you start to move and you can watch the handle slowly work its way back. I have an 05 330 trail boss and when you move the lever forward and it clicks into place its there until you pull it back.... Looks to me like there is a bent shift fork unless there is something else that causes that on a Polaris. Thanks again for your help in this matter Tom John I also found out it's a 2000 not a 99.

I think you are right about the bent shift fork, I can't see it being anything else now that you have ruled out the linkage. I will change the thread title to the correct year. I will also be moving it to the Polaris forum.

Thanks again for your support. Pulled the transmission yesterday and found a repaired case. after taking it apart I found needle bearings everywhere, no fluid, metal chunks on the drain plug magnet. forward drive gear in rough shape and some parts missing. The guy pulled the wool over on me. I made a list of all the parts from Polaris to repair the transmission and it came to almost $500. I also took pictures of every step along the way. Dropped the guy an email and told him that there is no way that this machine would drive fine after the carb job like he said. We'll see what happens. I think it's going to get ugly but I hope not. Thanks for all your help. Have a great day. Tom John

      Hello All
I'm kinda new to ATVs. I just bought a 1987 Suzuki quad runner 230 Dual Range. I'm having a problem finding info on it. It's very clean, only 2.800 miles. The front wheels are only 30 in.center to center. I was thinking about adding wheel spacers to give it more stability. I realize the added stress on ball joints and bearings. I'm wondering if there are any other concerns? Any input is greatly appreciated!

1st problem, Does anyone know where I can find a stock carb for my Timberwolf, I have tried two different aftermarket carbs and they both suck. The machine runs great until it gets good and warm, then it keeps stalling unless I feather the throttle. it will even stall while I'm trying to go from 1st to reverse or vise versa. I took it to a buddy of mine who is a bike mechanic for years, and he told me try to find a factory carb. When I look online from dealers it says "NOT AVAILABLE" anyone have any suggestions ?

2nd, The small tab on the rear axle for towing is to short for even pulling my small yard trailer, I can't even turn a little bit and hit hits. I tried making an extension which worked great as far as length, but it bends the tab and then the extension drags the ground. I have an idea of what to do to fix it, but wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem and see how you solved it.

I’ve got a 2000 400ex with a dg slip on muffler, it came with he stock muffler on it but the previous owner had the dg in a box so I put it on. I’ve been riding it for the past month and a half and every time I let off it backfires, and the other day the backfires got way louder, 2x louder! I’m concerned that I may hurt my motor? Why does is backfire??? Thanks

I'm working on my uncles grizzly and it sparks once on initial cranking then no more after that. If I let off the start button then press the start button again it will spark once then stop sparking. I was wondering if anyone seen this issue before.  Also I've never used forums before so sorry if this question is in the wrong location.
