I discovered the fine line between brave and stupid.

Really tough spot I got it in and over it went. It threw me down the mountain and thankfully a tree stopped it before too much speed built up.

So so so glad I'm alive.

Lesson learned!!!!!

The bike survived ok. It on some high mountain private land. Had to leave till Monday to get enough rigging to pull it out. It's on all fours pointing up hill.

Feels weird leaving it but it's about as hidden as can be.

I always seen to cross that line mostly on the stupid side !!:laugh:Thats why I have a broken wrist !:laugh: Glad your OK !! Dont let it stop you from gettin back on the quad and riding :yes:

Glad you are OK. I always look at an obstacle and tell myself "I think I can". After I try it and fail I look at it again and say "I thought I could". At this point I shake my head and say "I think if I would have done this instead of......." and the whole process starts over.

Ever try to sleep after a near miss like that and it keeps replaying over and over in your head? I have crash anxiety.

I think I really jacked up my knee. I can barely walk this morning.

how high up were you ?

The hill is about 200 yards.

I was at the half way point. Trying to cut across it sideways. Luckily the quad hit a tree within 25 feet. I stopped shortly after. It's one of those hills that gets progressively steeper towards the bottom. It's thick with brush so it's hard to gauge the incline in parts and I def guessed wrong.

So my sister is letting me borrow there rancher that has a winch to go pull it out of the hole.

Any tips on what to do and NOT to do

I planned on anchoring the winch quad to a tree from its hitch ball and maybe walking along side my quad up the hill.

I'm gonna have to have a long extension rope for sure and take it in steps.

It is retrieved. 2 hours of careful winching. Very steep and easy going.

After all the rolling and tree slamming

NOTHING wrong with it. 25 foot winch cable and 2 100 foot ropes.

I cleaned out the air cleaner and the housing and I'm off and riding.

Feels so so good to have it back in the garage.

Well I am glad to see you are OK. The thing is once you wreck you have to get right back on and ride. The same things happened to me when I rolled my quad, you second guess everything. You just need to start riding again and get your confidence back.

Leave the quad that is winching running and maybe you can borrow a snatch block if it is a steep incline to take some of the pressure off of the cable. Also get some type of wheel chock to put under your quads tires when you go to re rig the cable for the next pull. Do it in stages and give the winch a break in between so you don't overheat the winch.

that is a great view. good thing it stopped when it did. thoughs trees probably would have torn it all up. good that everything worked out and you and your quad are ok.

      98 Polaris Magnum 425 4x4 speed limiter advice needed.

      I suspect this bike may have a bad speed limiter. The part number for is 4060204. I found this one on ebay but it has a part number that is 1 number different. (4060203). It has the same LR44-2 and says its for a 94 Magnum 425. Will this one work on my machine or do I absolutely have to have the 4060204? Your advice would be appreciated. Thank you

      2006 LT-F400F stator/generator cover change: What is the best way to check that all is good with the transfer operation before reassembling?

      I have replaced the cracked stator cover on my non-running 2006 LT-F400F that I purchased recently, checked all the shafts vs the service manual and pics and advice here.  I replaced missing gears, bushings and washers, made sure that truth marks were all aligned properly, that the shift cam springs felt like they returned properly, etc.  IAfter installing the new stator cover I checked the transfer lever for proper movement from L-H-R and then cranked it up.  Happily, it runs and changes gears well in L,  but it will not shift into H or R for anything.  I have opened it back up and am going back through it looking for the missing puzzle piece(s) but how can I best check that I have everything right this time before buttoning it back up?

      So, i go to change the oil in my 2k Y 400 BB and, without reading what types of oil to use, i just put in 10w-40 motor oil.....then i decided to read exactly what type of oil i should be using. Apparently, the ATV oil is designed to also work with the clutch..lol...which is probably  why i was having a few issues going into the gears, or, maybe losing 1st gear going down a hill. Ok, now that i got educated i bought like 6 quarts of the "special" oil required. 
      Now, my second issue is it was hard to start for some reason. Usually it fires right up. So, once started i brought it up to the garage and removed the seat, thinking maybe the battery was weak from sitting. Nope...12.5 volts, but.....a mouse decided to build his nest right on top of the battery. I cleaned that all out, but, when i went to start it, the solenoid clicks and the starter just spins. UGH. One thing after another. No wires were chewed thankfully. Just kind weird the starter would do that all of a sudden when i messed with the oil.
      Do i need to pull the starter now and check the bendix thing? It spens real nice, it just won't engage. The wrong oil wouldn't do that...would it?
