87 yamaha big bear 350 engine oiling info

Recommended Posts

I have an engine out of an 87 big bear 4x4 that I am going to put in a golf cart, and am needing to do some block mods. what I need to know is how the oil runs in the transfer case? I know that the oil comes out from the bolt that holds the 90 degree gear that turns the out put shafts, and I am guessing that it is a drain hole on the back side. Will it hurt anything to block these off? I will not be using the t-fer case because I want to turn the engine sideways to shorten up the distance needed to the rear end. If this wont work, What other engine would be good to use?

as far as i know, the engine and gearbox are oiled separately from the transfer case, im new to this particular model though.

    • 2001 Kawasaki Bayou 220 Engine Locked Up

Need help with teardown of 2001 Bayou 220.  New to atv's but not to mechanical work.  I was given this ATV and went to turn engine over by pull rope and the engine is locked up.  Pulled spark plug no change.  Was going to tear down top end.  Any suggestions or tricks before I proceed?

    • Quadzilla XLC 500 Engine Issues

While riding my Quadzilla XLC 500 I was cruising along about 60 mph then opened it up, but once I hit 70-75 mph it died on me so I rolled to a stop and it wouldn't start for about 20-30 seconds. I then noticed the Temp light occasionally flashes on but its so quick you wouldn't notice in the day so not sure how long its been happening. The engine has started pinging when I accelerate which can be caused by many things so I drained the fuel and replaced with hi octane, fitted a new spark plug, adjusted the little washer on the high jet in the carb twice to make it run more lean which made no difference.  I tested the thermostat which opens at the correct temperature, I removed the radiator cap and started the engine and no bubbles were showing and the oil is on maximum and very clean as I have not long serviced it. The last time I took it out I went 14 miles and the coolant in the bottle has dropped about 1/2". I am now leaning towards a head gasket and have purchased a full gasket kit but was wondering if there's anything else it could be before taking the engine apart.

    • Mods for a 220 Bayou?

So I've owned my first ever ATV for roughly 48 hours and I'm already testing the limits of my Google-Fu on mods and accessories for it. I have a '00 Kawasaki Bayou 220 that I'm getting running and plan on using it for camping and hunting trips in northern Idaho. Other than the obvious: winch and a gun rack (actually won one a couple years ago and still have it!), is there any suggestions or recommendations anyone can give? One thing I'm considering is the Rotopax 2gal fuel can and the 2 gal first aid/survival can just cause I like being prepared, though I'm not sure it'd be necessary as I carry everything I need, minus fuel, in a day-pack whenever I'm in the woods. Any thoughts on the Rotopax? or other small fuel cans?

    • ATV Trailer Dump Cart

Who has an atv trailer for their ride? A dump cart. I've seen them at home depot and sears for tractors, which can be used for atvs. I've also seen them online. Just wondering who has one and how do you like it. If you have one, please include brand, price, place of purchase, photo (if available) and what you use it for mostly. Thanks.
