91 Yamaha 350 Big Bear - Idle Issues

Recommended Posts

Hi, first time user here. My 91 Big bear will only idle on half choke. I was given the bike after it was laid up for a year or more under a car port. I have re-built the carb, replaced ignition coil, new plug, new plug cap, cleaned gas tank, fresh gas (obviously. It will start on half choke, run on half choke but when I try to take the choke off when the engine is fully warmed up after 10 mins or more of running it just starts to splutter and dies with a few little back puffs through the air air intake. Ive tried various carb adjustments but all to no avail. Ive also tried adjusting the float as it seems that the mixture is lean. Im running out of ideas.

not trying to offend your intelligence, but have you adjusted the idle screw? i just rebuilt the carb on my 93 and im still trying to get the idle set right.

also, have you checked the fuel line? i blew mine out with an air compressor, cut it in half and installed a universal fuel filter (~$4 at AutoZone) with a clear casing so its real easy to see fuel flow. i also replaced the stupid spring clamps with band clamps because they were worn out.

the rubber manifold boot may be cracked. when running, spray some quick start around it and see if the rpm changes. if it rises, bad boot. i think maybe there is a small piece of dirt left in the carb. if you have an air compressor, blow everything out again ... i struggled with mine not quite 10 times before i got it right ...

From Arkansas. Just bought a 2012 Gator 850i RSX because I could not pass up the price. BUT it has an idle problem. So, to be honest, I joined just to get a service manual. I have a choice: 1)Buy a hard copy: ~$100; 2)Buy a CD ~$35.00; Get a direct download for free posting 10 times; or get a download for $29.00 (subscription). Haven't decided what to do yet.

Sorry I suck at these forums so if you see this submitted under update status, my bad. Anyhow this is a new shock for a 96 Yamaha Kodiak 400 4x4 it fits my 96 Yamaha Timberwolf 250 4x4 perfectly. Little narrower are the bottom than the original but everything else is perfect. I extended it to almost a half in from full extension because I’m pushing 350 pounds.  It rides and hold me well. So if any of y'allRace driven shock. have been looking for one and didn’t want to do the research here it is.

      Hey I have a 1997 big bear 350 4x4
I replaced the shifter shaft and the shift arm linkage and the rod when I installed them all I was unaware that you had to line the dot on the shifter shaft with the gap on the linkage arm gap put it all back  together and rode it I can't get it to shift in the right gears  I can move the shift cam by hand and goes in different gears but with the shifter shaft in it riding I can't put it in R or N
Anyone know how to line up the shifter shaft and the shift cam s

I WANTED TO UPGRADE THE CARBURATOR ON MY 1992 BIG BEAR 350, SO I ORDERED A NEW CARB FROM EBAY.  ACCORDING TO THE WRITE-UP IT WAS A GOOD FIT FOR BIG BEARS FROM 1988 TO 1996.  WHEN I REMOVED MY ORIGINAL CARB I NOTICED THAT IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE NEW CARB MY CARB HAD TWO THROTTLE  CABLES THE NEW CARB ONLY HAD ONE CABLE.  HOW CAN I MAKE THIS CARB WORK ON MY TWO CABLE THROTTLE?

2022 Sector 550, 414 miles on it and the gas gauge reads empty.  I topped off the gas and it didn't change.
There is no fuse that I could find.  No access at the gauge cluster.
Wiring on the top of the tank looks good, properly connected.
Could the sending unit in the tank be stuck or broken?
Has anybody removed the tank lid?  Any tricks?
      Any other ideas?
      Thanks for any help,
      Clyde
