  1. Lots of bikes go clunk clunk.. I think it's possibly the spag clutch.. just an impression though. They can be like it for years without causing problems, but a slightly flat battery makes the noise louder. I've seen in the manual that it warns you that cdi won't produce a spark below 430 revs.. I think it was 430, but they do warn you it needs some minimum revs or it won't go.. so that might explain why it won't go if it doesn't on the first attempt.. It either floods or gets a bit slow cranking. I'd try jumping it and see if it stops the clunk and makes it start better.. just for a test. That's an old system too and it's likely that if the pickup coil is too close to the flywheel it may give too much ignition advance. That would make the clunk worse.

  2. Don't sweat all that, I appreciate the help so far. I hate when people mess with things and then we have to try and unfu*k what they did to get to the root of the issue

  3. I have noticed that part being discontinued on a lot of bikes my only conclusion is that most of the air filters are internally supported now and that part is really not needed

  4. It sounds like a lean issue with both quads. Is the stock air filter in place ? Some quads lean out and don't want to run right without the air filter . Check to make sure there's nothing restricting the fuel flow to the carb. Also check to see if a small piece of crud has gotten into the carb inlet and resstricting fuel flow past the float needle . The new carb you bought might not be calibrated properly for your machine. Check the clip on the main throttle needle. You may need to move it down towards the needle tip to make it open more under throttle. Check is the idle air screw. It may be adjusted a little too lean. That would let it idle but when you go to open the throttle the mixture goes a bit to lean and it stumbles. All these lean burn symptoms would be more pronounced when the motor is warm. Those are about all I can think of to suggest checking .. Good luck and Happy New Year .
