  1. Hey joe. What your looking at there are valve stem seals.  They are supposed to sit on the base of the valve stem under the valve cover. They are inside the valve spring.
It would make sense on the fouling of the plug but they cant come off unless they are split or the valve comes out. So either someone left them inside the engine or they are split ?

  2. Hopefully everyone is doing well through this craziness???

Im still working even with the 100% shut down we are exempt until we have a confirmed case on site.   This weekend my offices and the entire site is being sanitized and wiped down etc by a specialized company.

The city looks like a Sunday every day thats how quiet it is. Erie is a better way to put it.
Here is a pic of the city i took yesterday mid day, Park Avenue.

I'm sure we are all getting a ton of stuff done around the house, honey do lists?

My wife is actually a hot mess with all this going on and completely on edge thinking about her father, me or the kids  and if anyone of us gets it! Then add the home schooling and logging into the schools for the days work etc. 🤯 She worries to much this woman.    Her father i agree as he's much older and has underlying health issues but we are all healthy and i feel we would be fine if it hit us.

I wonder how long Netflix will be able to keep up with the volume of users before it crashes lol and how many babies will come out of this,  social media shows we will call them "coronials"  😬

Anyway just wanted to see how and what everyone is doing??

    Stay safe people.

  3. Left and right movement is normal because the cylinder and piston keep it from moving left to right once the piston is in.
The only other reason i could think of would be the wrist pin and bearing at the piston? The bearing could be bad or check the top of the connecting rod where the wrist pin goes through and make sure its not egged. (Oval from a worn out bearing)

Hopefully you are putting in new valve stem seals?

  4. Welcome to Quadcrazy @matthew smith

The movement left to right is perfectly fine. If there is up and down then there is a problem.
Honestly if the compression is that low then a new piston and rings are in need.
Also a honer VERY LIGHTLY ran through the cylinder jug would be good.
Also a valve adjustment should be done as well.
Other then that you should be good to go.

  5. @MarkinAR i am completely baffled. Based on what i have found and what i have replaced makes perfect but no sense at all. There is no way this engine could have ran properly the way it was.  So anyway im going to write this off as an unexplained yet obvious solution based problem. @northernmi thanks pal.  It all worked out in the end.  Now i have the task of re assembling the rest of the atv and i hate that part.

But thanks to all that commented, we are on the uptick!!

    Pics to follow.

  6. Ahhhh ok i see it now.  So im assuming that the previous spark plug cap/boot had a big flat rubber washer on it that would have prevented water from getting inside.  My guess is the new coil did not have that boot I mentioned.
Can you post a pic of that?
If the spark plug is stripped and you cant get  it out then worst case is you pull the cylinder head off and work it out from the underside of the head. Maybe spray penetrating oil in the head/spark plug hole and let it sit for a day and try to get a smaller socket on there.  They also sell a socket that adapts to any size nut. Maybe try that?
