  1. You say it clicks with the start/stop switch in the stop position, you might want to check that , sounds like you might have a ground problem.
  2. I will do that
  3. OEM Parts are expensive good you have 4.
  4. Got out this afternoon and did a few tests, made some test leads to fit into the CDI plug of the wiring harness, got the mechanical meter with needle, hooked it up to the white/green and white/ red for the pickup coil, set on the lowest AC voltage setting which was 15 turned over the engine and got nothing, thought, this isn't working at all, then I moved my leads to the rotation direction coil wires white/blue and red rotated it over and the needle moved. So it does work, thanks you for that info Mech. So I have something wrong with the pickup coil even though it had the right resistance rating of 528. Next step is pull the side cover and see what's going on with the aftermarket stator. The wires are not color coded the same as the OEM wiring harness wires, im going to look inside and see what goes where. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.
  5. I just run a magnetic pickup tool down my oil fill hole, generally when I get a new old one, and wiggle it around to see if any metal chunks come out, that tells me a little about the engine condition.
  6. Did you pull the starter to see if the teeth were stripped, or run a magnet down the oil hole and see if you get any metal out.
  7. Since you are already into it I would do it, not that expensive, easy to replace, they are powerful little engines but could always use a little help.
  8. Welcome Brian, this sounds like the right place for you, lots of valuable information shared here.
  9. I would look at starting circuit wiring diagram in the manual, make sure the key switch is wired to the correct wires, sometimes aftermarket switches don't have the same color code as OEM harness,I think jumping the solenoid to see if the starter works as Mech, and p5200 suggested, would be first step, it would tell you if your starter is good, bad starter would be pulling lots of AMPs and cause your light to dim. Key switch wired wrong would also cause this.
  10. I must have missed that , what was the name of the thread.
  11. Just checked the wiring diagram, parking brake switch is not in the ignition circuit only in the starting circuit along with the neutral switch, bypasses neutral switch to let you start it in gear ,the regulator rectifier, if not covering AC to DC could have some effect, you can check that while its running, see what voltage you are getting at the battery.
  12. Did you check your starter cutout relay, there are 2 relays in harness 1 is starter cutout relay and the other is the reverse relay, they are little square boxes in the wiring harness, mine were blue OEM, but my replacements were black. That got my starter working from button.
  13. I think they are made of good flexible material, they have very good ratings, I might have noticed a little better response, but not much.
  14. I would try some fuel injector cleaner first, maybe a new spark plug, the easy stuff first.
  15. I might check the coil to see if it good, sometimes they get weak over time, and also check you carb slide diaphragm for any holes or tears.
  16. Motosport.com and partzilla.com sells OEM parts.
  17. Welcome, very good site with lots of information exchange.
  18. My first thought would be bad starter solenoid, you might check the connections make sure they are tight .
  19. With dashes showing it sounds like its not getting a signal from the sensor, I would check the wiring to make sure its all intact.
  20. It sounds kind of like a fuel restriction, but because of your description of how it happened, im not sure, it didn't get too hot while idling did it, they are air cooled an need a good amount of air flow to keep cool, but if it just happened its not that hot so maybe not. You could replace the plug like Mech suggested and maybe check for proper fuel flow, and maybe do a compression test, while you have the plug out. Just grabbing at straws here, more information as to how it runs would be helpful.
  21. There is a linkage adjustment next to the pull start, didn't know if you had tried that yet.
  22. That good you found that, electrical problems are sometimes hard to find, the joys of fixing old neglected ATVs, at least your making headway, im still trying to get mine to spark, and its gotten cold and Rainey here, not much work going on today.
  23. For finding the leak if you don't see any thing obvious along the brake lines, look at the caliper closely to see if you see any there, if not just put in fluid and bleed them like mech said, see if you get some pressure, if you don't see fluid leaking and it doesn't build up any pressure, check to see if your fluid is still topped up, if it is master cylinder is not functioning.
  24. Gas should be OK if it really just a few months old, if carb has sat for any length of time with ethanol gas you should pull the carb and clean it, it gets a jelly looking substance in the bowl and stops up the jets, but that takes longer than 5 or 6 months, yours may be OK but wouldn't hurt to check.
  25. Sorry about that I looked up the TRX300 and this is what I found yours must be a fancier model: I usually use aquarium hose but its probably 1/8-3/16 inch.
