  1. Nothing like a Jeep, iv drove all different models over the years and still have 2, but an ATV is still more fun, feeling the wind hitting you in the face.

  3. Aftermarket carbs tend to run too lean , definitely better to try and pick up OEM as Jim suggested, but you may try the air fuel mixture screw, generally located on the bottom of the carb pointed straight up, easy to miss, and see if it helps.
  4. Good choice, looks like those tires are more for speed than trail riding, don't give up on your other one it will come around, when you get frustrated walk away for a few days

My new gasket is supposed to be in tomorrow started cleaning up the mounting surfaces: Found another obstacle I knew there were bolts missing, but not really expecting this, broken stud, not surprising the shape this thing was in, but its coming around. Got it out with a little patience ,PB Blaster and hammer and chisel, I only use ease outs as a last resort, the small ones always break then you really have a problem.

  9. Do you have parts missing or damaged. Which piece are you referring to.
  10. If the neutral light is not coming on your battery is dead, but it does sound like the stator is not functioning charging the battery.
  11. Local dealers are more expensive than online dealers, you might compare prices I use rocky mountain ATV and Motosports.

  13. Thanks for the info, wasn't sure, it does show one in the parts diagram but it may just be a spacer.
  14. There are about 3 posts with weak spark on these bayous, something is wrong, maybe they are are not playing well with the metallic-oxide semiconductors.

Im thinking you may have to get an OEM coil just to make sure you have the right one, I say this because I ordered 3 aftermarket before I got one that was close to the right specs, still wasn't exact, but I am sparking, not running yet waiting on parts, but if I still have problems running that's what I will do. It still may be your ignition unit, but like Mech says if your not getting a good spark on the bench with direct battery feed something is wrong.
  16. The pickup coil and pulser coil is the same, under the stator cover the small coil that generates voltage for spark as the rotor goes around, you said you have condensers(small capacitors) are they internal or replaceable external.
  17. Sorry you guys are having so much trouble, im at a loss right now, maybe try a 350 chevy coil. I will download manual and take a look.

Went out today thought it might be a good idea to check the valve clearances while the tank was off, too bad I didn't think of that before I put the tank back on, so I took the tank back off, I could tell these bolts had never been removed from factory, intake was .003 perfect, range .002-.004 exhaust was .006 range.006-.008 I usually try to go middle of range but was good so didn't touch it. Pull starter needs attention, this bike was so neglected. Really rusty no gasket, have to make one. Cleaned up fairly well with the cheek poker.

  20. The rockers do seem different, one is more polished than the other, maybe a replacement, when it was together and you rolled the engine over did it appear to do anything.

I have been thinking it was the ignition unit also, but I don't like to suggest high dollar parts until im sure, the only thing that still makes me unsure is the ignition unit normally either works or doesnt work, in my experience, it does concern me that your pick up coil and main coil are not up to specs, but If you bench tested the coils and got a good spark, then we are back to either pickup coil or ignition unit.
  22. Now that I can hear it better it does sound like a fuel issue, there should be an air fuel mixture screw you can try turning it and see if it helps, also the throttle needle you could move it up a notch and see if it helps. This is a new clean carb.

  25. Which repair manual are you looking in , I downloaded a 93-2005, and one for a 99 the 99 seemed more right for your bike, the other one was just like my big bear one, same wire colors and everything.
