  1. That great you figured it out, I didn not even mention the key switch, I thought if it was turning over switch was OK. Good work!
  2. White smoke is generally from water, but I have seen white smoke from marvel mystery oil, if it was flooding badly it would be black smoke, and if it was oil burning it would have a bluish tinge to it.
  3. Nice video, very soothing, thanks for sharing.
  4. The other thing I had to get used too was planning my turn around 25 yds in advance, that's the being on motorcycles most of my life, state of mind.
  5. Im in total agreement on OEM parts, I shyed away from them off eBay , thought if they want that much money for these old parts that may or maynot work they should at least wash the mud off and make them presentable. Like you I am having so much trouble with the aftermarket stuff, I may be changing my thinking.
  6. There are a few things I would check with no spark issue, first the stop start switch, black goes to ground, Black/ white goes to CDI check those 2 to make sure its working. Make sure you have 12 volts going to CDI R/W wire. Make sure you have ground going to CDI black wire. Your cutoff relay is good or you wouldn't be turning over with starter. You have checked your resistances they are close, mine on the pickup coil was 530 but its a few years newer bike resistances and wiring may be a a little different. You can check to see if you have voltage coming out of the pickup coil using an intermittent voltage adapter for your digital meter using the W/G and W/R at the CDI, if its an aftermarket stator wiring colors may be different, but should hook up to your original wiring harness going to CDI. I didn't have an adapter and Mech told me to use an analogue meter and the needle would move when it detected voltage, it worked for me, but you have to watch closely or you will miss it. Again I haven't looked at your wiring diagram so wire colors may be different on yours. One other thing make sure you have continuity and voltage from CDI on orange wire to the coil. You may have checked all these things already just going through my steps.
  7. I have noticed harder steering on all my 4x4s, but they are all 20 years old, I have even taken the front off of one and regressed everything that I could grease and if it helped it was only minor, I think its just the nature of the beast, that's why the newer ones have a power steering option, my honda 2x4 is not nearly as hard to steer.
  8. Good that you got it figured out so quickly, sometimes those little electrical issues can drive you crazy, and of all things a buzzer. Thanks for sharing this freak happening for others to be aware of.
  9. That could be it found this, most ATVs don't have this switch https://knightatv.com/products/belt-switch-bypass-kit
  10. I decided I didn't want to fool with it, and bought the Mikuni.
  11. I thought about doing that to the aftermarket carb I have , just buy the jets and the needle, yamaha doesn't seem to offer a kit from OEM dealer, so I was looking at the parts and the needle by itself was 44.00, that's why so many good OEM carbs get trashed because you can buy a new carb that kind of works for less, but you don't know its not as good until you really push it, my biggest complaint with them is hesitation and throttle response. There are aftermarket kits but there you are again, are they good enough, or better than buying an aftermarket carb, probably.
  12. The guy got back to me on the Mikuni carb. There is one carb that fits 2000-2002 3 years, then they changed it. They seem very knowledgable on Mikuni Carbs. It used these jet sizes: Jetting: 112.5 Main jet 17.5 Pilot Jet 70 Starter jet Not surprised the aftermarket carbs perform badly. I am going to check the jet sizes on my aftermarket carb that is leaking and see if it even comes close to that.
  13. I was toying with the idea of getting one of those, except the one I was looking at had shorter tongue, but ended up deciding against it I had too many trees to mow around, how does it do with trees.
  14. This guy has a good string of instructional videos, this one may or apply to your kids depending on age.
  15. Sounds like you are in good shape, spark and compression, you might get away with just cleaning the carb. Keep me updated I like hearing the progress on resurrection projects.
  16. I am a little skeptical although the company has aa 5 star rating, it does say Mikuni on the carb, but is it, there are fake everything out there now. The seller did get back with me almost immediately haven't read the email yet, I will let you know what he had to say, curious to see why it doesnt fit a 2000, all of the aftermarket says they fit Big Bear all, wolverine, timber Wolfe, warrior, so that pretty much sums up why they don't perform well, no way they are a perfect match for all those bikes.
  17. I know that feel , a feeling of accomplishment when you have worked so hard on something and get it going, after years of doing this I still get it. Good luck!
  18. Thanks! That great you getting the Polaris, hope it works out good . Taking your grandson along and getting him involved is perfect, things like that kids never forget.
  19. Got it running on gas yesterday. IMG_3642 2.mov Not without its minor problems, petcock leaking, aftermarket carb leaking out a hole in the bottom, thought drain screw was loose but it wasn't maybe wrong screw who knows, maybe o ring missing. I expected these things, but it runs pretty good for stuck engine and sitting so long, idle was high but that's carb.
  20. Thats a great project, your son will never forget the times with his Dad working on a project like that, I know I haven't. We were always working on cars and motorcycles.
  21. I have contacted the seller to try to find out why it won't fit a 2000 model, I have a lot of trouble with aftermarket carbs, already having trouble with the one I put on my Eiger 4 months ago, ran good when I first put it on, im really thinking about getting one anyway.
  22. When you get to 2200 RPMs in neutral does it spit and sputter and die or what happens.
  23. Thats great you got it fixed, did you end up going with an OEM coil or aftermarket, some of the other guys with the same issue might be interested in which coil you ended up getting.
  24. Just found this on eBay, OEM carb for 2003-06 Yamaha Big Bear, $165.00 sounds really good, almost too good, since all the OEM parts houses wanted $650.00 for them. Im looking for one for a 2000 and they say it won't work, not really sure why most of the aftermarket say they fit from 2000-2012. Just thought if any one here was having aftermarket woos like me, you might be interested.
