  1. Lol well I went over the gears many times now so I have the installation memorized at this point. But I will post some pics of the process after I get it back together
  2. So I have come to admit my wrong and in the event anyone else is suffering a similar issue. I put the starter gear on backwards lol I switched it around and now everything is working as it should. Putting the stator cover back on now and we will see if she will fire up then
  3. I have gotten all of this figured out now, the bike is in good running order (I have to pull the valve cover off and seal a leak but besides that) The bike was built from two parts bikes that sat for close to ten years so for what it was it in great shape now
  4. I can not find any gasket kits for the valve cover. I have bought 3 rebuild kits for different bikes and none come with a valve cover gasket so I can't double gasket. I did think that maybe there is supposed to be some room between the two mating surfaces so I ok it some rtv and let it sit finger tight overnight so I'll tighten it down and see how it is.
  5. Thanks gw, I took the valve cover back off and it spun normally again I can't find any difference between the two besides some wear on the head from the carnage before. But I just put the old head back on and I can turn the engine over now
  6. I have been rebuilding some ATVs in my spare time and teaching myself along with the help from the internet how an engine works and getting bikes running again is quite enjoyable. I even built an arctic cat 300 4x4 from two parts bikes the had seized motors and missing parts. It was pretty enjoyable. So I am now working on a sazuki quadrunner 300 1992 which had a whole list of issues when I got it. I have fixed almost everything I need to in order to get this bike running. But something is going on inside the head or crankcase. I had to replace the timing chain because it was very stretched due to the previous owner. What the issue was, the timing chain was off the sprocket inside the engine due to it being stretched it slipped off. So the previous owner rebuilt the top end thinking it would fix it which it may have temporarily, but when doing so they welded an extra inch onto the tensioner to hold the chain tight. Which as you can imagine caused a dozen other issues. So that stretched the chain to the point where I could remove the cam with the tensioner in. It beat the sliders all to hell. Destroyed the cylinder housing and obviously ruined the tensioner. I didn't realise all of this until after I rebuilt the engine. I noticed wear where the timing chain runs through the cylinder. I found the cam had no retaining chair, or clip whatever you want to call it so the cam was beat to sh** also. It had almost an inch of play side to side. So I pulled the head off of my parts bike and fixed all of it. Then put it together and went to pull it over and found it was not on the sprocket (this is when I realised that all that damage and the welded tensioner was because the timing chain had been off the sprocket) So I pulled the stator cover off and pulled the flywheel (which I should add to get at the stator cover I have to remove the rear tire and a arm as well as remove the bolt through the front of the engine. And the exhaust system has to be removed to pull the cylinder as the exhaust guard is bolted to the side of the timing chain tensioner. Stupid setup. Glad the king quad doesn't have that. So I got everything apart and the flywheel off. New timing chain (nice and tight now) put the head back together and flywheel but it is quite hard to turn the engine over. I can but with difficulty. When the valve cover was off it seemed to spin much more freely. Before I tear everything back apart and start again any ideas on what it is?
  7. Just came on to post about a different bike. A 1992 quadrunner 300 but thought I would mention the king quad runs tip top now. I have no issues since. Need to replace a wheel bearing but besides that a1.. just in time too because now it's my plow bike. That diff lock is a dream
  8. Holy sweet FK I have been waiting almost 2 months for this gasket kit for the arctic cat. Finally got an update for it to be delivered by the 14th lol. I have the rings now so hopefully she will fire right up
  9. I see this cylinder has been bored out but I have a standard cylinder that's in almost perfect shape, would it be worth it to get rings for the good 1 up size piston and hone the good cylinder out for it or buy rings for the standard size piston? I have both and are good shape. Is there any pros and cons to one over the other
  10. It runs and drives pretty good for a pieced together bike that was seized up for idk how long, I just used rtv before to make sure I could get it running before investing too much but I went ahead and ordered a new top end gasket kit and I got some calipers to check the cylinder size so I can get the proper rings to put on. But besides that I'm just cleaning it up now, As it was a parts bike like the other I had when I first got onto the rebuild I found a couple cracks in the frame. So I welded them and welded angle support then later on in the rebuild I found two more on the bottom of the frame so I ended up pulling the wiring harness speedometer and brake lines, shifting linkages off and pulling the rear end of both bikes out. (Honestly though good on ya arctic cat because besides the rear end being a bit hard to manoeuvre the rest of the bike is easy to walk around) I have new brake line on from Canadian Tire for 8 bucks and have to bleed the lines to get it up and running again, but I think I am going to pull the head again. Clean everything up and check the cylinder size then order some new rings and put it all back together again. Hopefully for a long time lol VID_20230914_133036109.mp4
  11. Yeah I'm glad I'm in the two bikes for 400 and parts/tools another 200 but I pulled the rear end off both last night. I found another crack and said the hell with it I'm swapping frames so I'm undergoing cleanup at the moment I'm building it for the woman so she wanted it red I haven't done much of the paint fyi! It's her bike
  12. So update. I got the engine running and it runs great, I found the piston rings were seized on the piston so I took it apart and cleaned it up and hones the cylinder and also reseated the valves it has good compression and fires up pretty good now. But I found multiple cracks in the frame so I ended up pulling the engine and rear end to swap into the other bike Ps I will be getting a gasket kit but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a waste of time first
  13. It's identical to my king quad 300 engine, and I am going to look into putting a new cam chain and I'm gonna try honing out the cylinder and if it cleans up nice I will get an oversize piston. If not I will try the head off 1 of my two other parts bike engines until I can get something on and running. My budget is I am building a bike from the ground up. It was two parts bikes I'm going to make one, it has papers too so I will do a complete engine swap if I have to. I have no deadline I am building it for my girlfriend. And learning how to do it as well. So I will fix things along the way when I can. I got the piston out and the rings were seized in so I had to pry them out. Just judging based on the cylinder wall though I assume I will either have to replace or upsize my piston
  14. On that note lol, I pulled the head and cylinder. Cylinder wall looks a bit crusty but the piston seems good. I cleaned up the valves and they seems fine so I reseated them. I'm just wondering if I should get a new cylinder or if it would hone out. Or if I would have to bore it and upgrade my piston Also this is the exact same engine that is on a king quad correct? So I could hypothetically take parts from my king quad engine aswel
  15. So I picked up two arctic cat 300s they were parts bike but Ive got both turning over and have spark, they get fuel but I can't get it to fire up, even with some starter fluid down the carb and I tried the spark plug hole. I'm thinking I will have to open up the engine and see what's going on inside as I don't know how long it sat. I'm grabbing a compression tester tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas, also do I have to pull the engine to take out the piston and change the rings? There's a fair bit of room, I have all the plastics and racks off because I had to redo the wiring harness. It was a mess.
  16. My king quad 300 at 80k kms hasn't had a valve job yet, not did my 250 quadrunner
  17. Update. I got the neutral indicator light to come on, and 1st needs a new bulb. Second works but the rest I assume are burnt out. That being said I still have no power to the starter. So I am thinking the starter relay? I believe is what this is called. I'm assuming it is the culprit. Or the connections Update. I got the neutral indicator light to come on, and 1st needs a new bulb. Second works but the rest I assume are burnt out. That being said I still have no power to the starter. 18. Yes I can get at it easy, I removed it and tested it. The starter itself is fine the issue is when you engage the starter it turns the motor then it should spin freely right? But when I turn the gears inside the hole they do not move individually. Like they are stuck together. So when I use thepull cord to turn over the motor it is also turning the starter, the other bike doesn't have that issue
  19. Ok so I'm back lol I got two arctic cat 300s that I am either trying to make one of the two or if possible I'll get them both running. I have a good start but I am struggling to find a wiring diagram that actually shows the connections. Both bikes were tore apart and some wiring was spliced and all screwed up so I have been tracing wires and redoing the connections. On one bike I have a neutral light and it will let the use e start to turn starter motor, thing is on that bike the motor is stuck engaged so when I pull the pull cord it's turning the starter motor as well. On the other bike it is free and works as it should but I can't get the neutral indicator light to come on. Or any for that matter. I have been going through the fuses which all have power as well as the e start switch. I'm wondering if anyone has come across some similar issues, I am checking the neutral switch tonight, I have been checking the wiring and comparing it to the bike that is working (in that sense) but both bikes are missing some things I'm wondering if it is a better option to pull the good motor out and rebuild it then put it into the bike with the indicator lights working. But on that bike all the bushings and linkages are toast so there's a lot of work to either bike. I'd like to at least get the engine to fire up before I invest too much energy into swapping motors. So if anyone has some info or can send me in the direction of a good wiring diagram it would be much appreciated. Thanks
  20. I just pulled up the old picture, but have been waiting on the rebuild kit. So I cleaned and put the parts that were in the best shape back together and have been using it like that since but Tuesday I get the new petcock and fuel pump kit
  21. I have gotten OEM kits for everything. Because I intend for it to last, not gonna lie though these bikes are really fun. I actually ended up sinking it today, I was creeping through a foot of water and it just dropped off to 3½ feet got into the intake. So I had to pull the bike out (water went down the exhaust too) I got the bike pulled back (soaked myself) Then pulled the plug and turned it over a few times and drained the carb then she fired right back up and I was on my way lol
  22. I did check them. I believe it was you who told me what to check (the flow and whatnot) but also advised I don't remove them or open them up to clean. Which I ignored and found these issues
  23. Okay but I appreciate the effort but that's not the issue, I know what the problem is and my parts arrive Tuesday. The diaphragm in the fuel pump is rusted through and there are a few holes in the gasket. And the petcock had a hackjob or a gasket maker seal which plugged half the holes and ruined the gasket for it
