  1. Well Frank, the tires Ajmboy mentioned are good tires. But since you mentioned you're liking the mud, water & want snorkels ... I'd look at the Maxxis Zilla tires. I've read they are a pretty good all around tire and pretty good in the mud. They are light, so they don't rob any horsepower, & they are fairly inexpensive, as far as ATV tires go. No, I've never ran these tires, but I want to. However, I have to other sets of tires I need to wear at first ..... sigh .... and here's a good place to look at for purchasing, should you go with this tire, or any other brand/style they sell. https://www.pureoffroad.com/maxxis_zilla_atv_tires.htm ...
  2. Why THANK YOU Frankie Guy ... Glad you enjoyed the video. Yup, it was a couple days after the foggy video & no one had been up there yet. It was an AWESOME day !!! WOO HOO !!! I have LOTS of maintenance to do & I hope I get done before summer gets here so I can enjoy some spring time riding out in the desert. I guess time will tell. However, I'm really forward for the winter of 2019-2020 & hoping it's a good one !! YEAH BUDDY !!! THANKS for check'in out the video too Frank, I appreciate it !!! ... THANKS Lucas Guy ... Glad you enjoyed the video !! I'm located in Northern Utah & when I'm tracking, I ride in the Monte Cristo mountain range. Thanks for check'in out the video, I appreciate it !!! ...
  3. Sadly, my tracking days are over for this season ... ... Hope you enjoy the video .... ...
  4. Like MikeExplorer wrote, sorry to hear about the loss of you riding buddy. Cancer sucks !!! I had it, hope it never returns !! OK, to reply to your question ... since I run tracks in the winter & ride year around, I service The Beast (2014 Can-Am Outlander MAX 1000) twice a year. Once in the spring when I take the tracks off, & once in the late fall when I take the tires off. So, I just took the tracks off & my Beast is in pieces. I replaced the water pump & impeller with a Boyesen high out put set up. I replaced the plastic thermostat housing with some aftermarket aluminum ones & changing out all the plastic coolant hose fittings (A "Y" & "T" fitting) with aluminum ones. I'm having a custom thermostat housing made with a by-pass block off when the thermostat is open & I also am having a custom 1 inch aluminum "T" fitting made. And of course, I drained the coolant & will be putting fresh coolant back in when the coolant parts get here & installed. Next, I'm having the ECM reflashed. Is it worth it ?? Does it really work ?? ... I'll let you know when I'm riding again & get a few miles on round rubber under my belt. I changed the front diff oil, the engine oil & filter & the tranny oil. (I do this in the fall to, along with the rear diff) The rear diff has a leaking pinon seal, so that will have to be changed & fresh oil installed. Grease all the zerk fittings (I do this several times during the year) I remove the handlebar mitts I use in the winter & reinstall the handlebar brush guards. I rewrapped my exhaust with DEI Titanium heat wrap as well as added some additional heat fighting items over the exhaust. I have a headlight that needs some attention because it's not working, but I need the ECM installed to complete this task. Changed out the spark plugs. Ordered some aftermarket footwells because I hate the factory Can-Am footwells & finally just got fed up. (The right side one has to be removed to change the tranny oil)(I modified the clutch side one, but it's a royal pain to remove too.) I still need to clean & look over both clutches & inspect/replace the CVT belt. And last, I'll need to reinstall the Ricochet skidplates. It'll probably be another couple weeks before all the parts I've ordered come in & I get everything put back together. ...
  5. Great photo's MikeExplorer Guy ... Looks like you all had a good time too. THANKS for shar'in !!! ...
  6. YEAH BUDDY !!! .... and I have one more tracking video to upload yet ... but my tracking days are over for this season. Matter of fact, I took them off yesterday & I'm in the middle of giving the Beast some TLC & doing a few mods. So it'll be a few weeks until I'm "Back In The Saddle" again. I'm not sure Youtube would let me use that music ... they have been real buttheads about the tunes I use ... the Bast%$'s !!! Yup, come spring time when I can't access the snow, which we still have a ton of on top, I switch to tires. Then come fall, when the snow starts to fly, I switch back to tracks. At those two times of the year is when I do all my maintenance, change oils, etc. I tried the tracks out one spring on dirt roads, in the rocks, & mud ... not that fun to me & they beat the crap out of because they don't have any give like tires. So when the tracks are on, it's Snow Only riding .... Glad you enjoyed the video Frank Guy, and THANKS for watch'in it too !!! ...
  7. You are correct. They close this mountain pass road for the winter, then groom it for the sledders. And to get to where I like to play I have to ride this road for a ways. I do get off the trail as much as I can before I get to the area I so enjoy. But it's all good, sometimes they don't get the groomer out & then the road can be real challenging with all the drifts that get blown around up there. But no railroad grade in that area ... I did one more ride after this one & even thou there was still 8 ft of snow up on top, the lower elevation snow was gone, so my season ended back on 17 Apr. There's still lots of snow up there & it'll be mid June before I get up in that area on tires, so ............ PRAY FOR SNOW !!! .......... WOO HOO !!! Glad you enjoyed the video MikeExplorer Guy, and THANKS for check'in it out too ... it's much appreciated !!! ...
  8. So, what did you do on tax day ?? Me, I went for a track ride even thou it was foggy and snowy ... Hope you enjoy the winter time video ... ...
  9. Yup, another tracking video ... ... I know most of you are looking forward to mud, however, I Love Snow. What can I say ... So, here's a video from a couple weeks ago & I still have two more video's to post since right after that, my season ended ... I hope you enjoy the video ... ...
  10. Yeah Buddy, another Great Day on the snow ... Hope you enjoy the video .... ...
  11. Some times the problem with hand held radio's are they are kind of "line of sight" accessories, meaning, if you ride in any mountainous terrain with gulleys, valleys, etc, you might not get reception to the other users radio. But if the terrain you ride in is relatively flat or rolling with not to much terrain to "hide" behind, or you can get on a rise or ridge top (and your son understand this as well), then the radio's work great. A couple more options you might consider, although they aren't cheap either, is the Garmin Rino 700 series GPS/Handheld Radio ... if both you & your son had one of these mounted on your ATV, you would be able to know exactly where he is (and he would know where you are) & you would be able to communicate with him. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/576031 Or maybe the Garmin InReach Hiking GPS/Satellite communicator (This is what I have) ... you can't talk on them, but you could text each other, you can text the wife if you're going to be late, & you can send an SOS if needed for help. (Might be a little to much for an 8 yr old thou) https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/561286 Or maybe the Garmin InReach Mini ... again, it might be to much for an 8 yr old. But it is an option. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/592606 Anyway, these are some other options for you to ponder. ...
  12. I like winter riding ... or at least the kind I do, on Tracks. Get covered in snow, snow melts when I get home, and The Beast is clean ............ WHAT !?!? ...
  13. Yup, it's been a pretty good year out my way snow wise. And yes, hopefully all this white stuff will help replenish a few lakes & reservoirs. However, flooding is now a concern as well. And we've already had a few mus slides in my area, so I sure hope it doesn't warm up to fast. Thanks for watch'in the video Mike Explorer Guy, I appreciate it !!! That's what they are forecasting, more snow. And since this video was made (30 Mar) we've had two pretty good storms come thru. Bad part is thou, they have been warm ones with lots of rain. And where I live we've only had rain & where I ride, some snow, but mostly rain. So I'm hoping I can still get up there in a few days. There's a ski resorts south of me thou that had received 22 inches of new snow as of yesterday & another 17 inches over night ... so yeah, relentless for sure .... WOO HOO !!! Thanks for watch'in the video Frank Guy ... THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! ...
  14. WOO HOO !!!! .... Fresh Snow .... Hope you enjoy the video .... ...
  15. What an AWESOME DAY ... Hope you enjoy the video ......... ...
  16. Gunny

    Lots of Country

Yup, I'm a pretty lucky guy for sure Gregorio Guy ....
  17. Glad you enjoyed the video Frank Guy ... I wouldn't say the tracks throw up THAT much snow ... .... here's a couple photo's to show you. The first one I have the 5 inch wide fender extensions I made on, the second one, I took them off to see if I would really get that much more snow thrown me ... Ah, after that ride, I put the fender extensions back on ... Thanks for watch'in the video too Frank !!!
  18. Gunny

    Lots of Country

Glad you like the photo Curtiosity Guy !!!
  19. OH MAN ... getting off the trail at the 6:48 mark lets a guy know the snow is still kinda deep ....... ... Looked like a fun day ... WOO HOO !!! ... except for the break down ... BUMMER !!! ...
  20. Yup, spring has sprung ... I sure hate to see the snow melt ...... ........... Hope you enjoy the video ... ...
  21. I was gonna write a big long speech about me riding alone .... but I deleted it. Lets just say, you ride how you want, & I'll ride how I want ... and most of the time, I ride alone ... and I like it !! Been doing the "Alone Thing" for over 50 yrs ... hunting, trapping, snowshoeing, camping, and ATVing in the spring, summer, fall & winter (on tracks) .... and I'm still here. But like some have mentioned, if one does ride alone, don't do stupid stuff, don't take unnecessary risks, have the means to spend a night or two in the wild, let someone know where you plan to spend the day, and if possible, have a way to communicate with the world or send an SOS. (i.e. Garmin InReach or a SPOT device.) .... BTW, I only got the way to communicate with the world in the past couple years., before that, I was TOTALLY alone ....... YEAH BUDDY !!! I'm not trying to justify or say a guy should ride alone, but if a guy has someone to ride with, SWEET !!! ..... If not, well then, you either sell your ATV or ... You Ride Alone !! WHAT !?!? ...... ...
  22. Why Thank You Frank Guy ... THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!! 👊 Glad you enjoyed the video & THANKS for check'in it out too !!! 👍 ...
