Is it over heating? Your fan may not kick on if your moving and have good air flow but as you let it set and run it should come on. If your coil is bad it can cause it to run bad or die. A bad coil will over heat and as you say once it cools it will start. But see what others on here may think to. They could very well know something more. You don't need to just go and buy a coil & find out it's not the problem.

Sounds good just don't want you to get into this thing and have it come back and take a bigger bite out of your wallet & more down time.

I'm jumping back in on this one! No one can tell you how good the bottom end is without tearing it down and checking the tolerances. These motors rev high & are pushed hard. A small engine works a lot harder than lets say a car. You want the crank and rod to be in spec and a new timing chain should be on your list new seals & gaskets you would save in the long run to have it done right the first time. Please don't take this the wrong way but you put (he thinks). I know sometimes it comes down to money also on how much we can spend but if you plan on keeping this quad I would want to know it's good. I worked in a high performance automotive co. I have seen a motor with the rod comming out of the oil pan more than once. If it checks out ok you can reuse it just replace the crank & rod bearings.

Being an 89 model suzuki is it a 2 or 4 stroke? If it is a 2 stroke it should have smoke comming out.

I agree part it out or give it one more chance at life if you can. If you sell it as a whole unit a buyer is going to use what it needs and how much it's going to cost them to get it cheap. Their plan my be to buy it and part it out their self. You would make more money to part it out. Unless you don't need the money and just want it out of the way take Petes deal.

The bad part is you put money into an atv that's going to need a motor which may cost as much as a good used running quad. Thats a tuff one.

Every quad sold should come with a free backhoe & bobcat. I guess we would need land too!
