MAJOR HELP NEEDED! 2004 Kazuma

Reynoso

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, so i was handed down what i believe to be a Kazuma Dingo 150. It was given to me by my brother in law. There are many problems with this quad and i dont really know what to do or where to start.

What i know for sure is its a 2004 Kazuma, it has however been altered by his father when it was first bought, there is a gas pump which i am pretty sure is not stock due to him having the exact same model just in a different color and it does not have the pump. The right rear tire does not hold air and the rim appears bend( i think thats an easy fix just buy a new tire unless theres more too it im not sure.) and i think its got the wrong type of battery.

I want to get rid of this gas pump and get it back to whatever its stock performance is as well i dont have any manuals and the battery it has is a CTX7L-BS, when i google the battery it says its a Boat battery so im very confused and it is being held in by some wooden slabs... I would really like to know how i can fix this and if there are any tune up issues or maintenance issues i need to worry about as well. If its not a Dingo 150 can anyone tell me how i can find this out?

I have attached pictures of the quad, gas pump, and battery. Hope someone can help me.

as far as the gas pump goes i don t know about that. if your tire is going flat air it up and put some soapy water all around it. where ever its leaking you will see bubbles . if its on the tread part you can probably just put a tire plug in it. if its on the side wall you ll have to patch it. or there might be some dirt around the rim. sometimes if you air it up really good you can hear where its leaking and you might not need the soap water. if your battery is for a boat chances are its a marine battery and they don t charge from your machine. you have to manually charge it. as far as maintenance make sure you check that the oil is good. and if its liquid cooled check the anti freeze. if it has grease fitings make sure you grease them good. not sure if theres anything else wrong with it but if you need anymore help let me know or theres lots of good people on here that know what their doing.

Well as for the tire i did the soapy water and i found that its not a hole anywhere there are rocks between the rim and tire, i tried to get them as best as i could and i cant see any rocks or dirt and the rim is bent a little which is why i think i might need a new tire. it looses air fairly slow though until you sit on it then it goes and you can hear the air escape from the side where i got all the rocks out which is why i believe there might either be more rocks deeper past what i can see and feel or the rim is bend and the tire is gone.

as for the battery, do you think it be better to go out and buy the actually Kazuma battery (Or any Quad specific battery that fits) or is this boat battery good? i mean like i said it is held by the two wooden slabs on the side and one on the bottom.

So as for maintenance im not too worried about because my main concern is that it has not been started in probably 2 years and the gas is most likely gone bad so i will have to drain that and most likely every fluid in this thing and start fresh.

Curious how long do you think this would take? to get to a working condition?

If you need any more pictures or would like a closer look at anything let me know i can always get post more pictures of it. if i remember correctly the chain looks like it is rusted a bit so im thinking of changing that if necessary[/QUO

and yes replacing the chain would be a good idea since it is rusted plus it probably is stretched a lil and you dont want tht:no:

i tried starting it 4 days ago and the battery is still somewhat good the lights start up but i only tried once because i didnt want to damage the quad because i know it hasnt been started in over a year and the fluid and gas changes are kind of a given. i just wanted to confirm if it was a dingo 150 so i buy all the correct fluids and battery before i start this project. I plan to replace the spark plug so thats not a big deal

Damn this project looks like its going to get a bit pricey in the near future haha. i guess ill see what the old spark plug has left in it before i get a new one.

Do you think buying a new battery is beneficial or sticking to the boat battery it has in it now? If fresh is better should i get a new boat one that it has right now or you thinking just getting an actual ATV battery that is meant to be used in this quad?

if you dont want to spend money on a battery right now u dont need to if you are just gonna try to get it runnnin..... just drive your car or truck up to it with the motor on and hook some jumper cables to it...... u can crank it all day like tht haha.................... and the spark plug you can scrub it with a wire brush several times before it just wont work anymore............. i went through 4 spark plugs before i got my 400ex runnin again lol.......personally a mairine battery is basically an upgrade to your quad lol. it will last wayyyy longer than your average quad battery:yes:

lol i thought that would be bad due to the excessive power of a car running compared to the power needed on a quad.... well then i guess ill be stocking up on spark plugs

i see well then i guess ill look at getting another marine battery.

Side bar; Jerod you wouldnt by chance know anything about the gas pump would you?

hahaha ya spark plugs can be a needed thing wen restoring a quad lmao:laugh:.........sidebar; by gas pump do u mean taking the pump out and putting just a normal gas line?? tht gas pump should not be stock i would say someone put it on there u should be able to take it off and just put a straight hose runnin from the tank to the carb... help??

well i might make a run this weekend and hopefully start this project then maybe get some good progress on it.

sidebar: yeah i know its not stock, becuase my brother-in-law has the same quad just in blue and his does not have a manual pump. Im not sure if there was something wrong with it originally having a straight gas line and thats why they put a pump but it just makes it more complicated trying to start it with a pump haha.

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

Bucking started about a month ago and works ok after 1/2 hour warmup.  Today while working on it i discovered that if i put the ignition switch in LIGHT position it runs fine right from the start.
I'm stumped!  Any idea why this could be?

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.
