  • Ajmboy changed the title to Honda Sportrax Hubs From Recon?

the bolt pattern is the main issue- as far as I know, atv brands have the same bolt patterns among the models- so you couldnt take honda rims and put in on kawasaki....  But I would say yeah, go for it!  Worst case, you might have to buy some spacers to keep the rims from rubbing your brakes... dont know about that.

You'd have to  measure to be sure , but the hubs  may very well be interchangeable.  My guess is they most likely are if they are from similar  quad series. Hubs  from  a 250cc to  350cc bike in  either series are more likely to be a direct swap than  from a  250 and one with a much larger displacement.  More power would  call  for heavier axles  and hubs in most cases.

I recently got my hands on a free 2004 Recon that the owner had zero information on the machine or the history. Long story short, a little troubleshooting and research revealed i needed to replace the timing chain for it to stay running. when i opened the case, it the chain was so horribly stretched, that the tensioner pivot arm had play between it and the chain! I also found the oil pump chain totally disconnected from the sprocket due to being completely worn out. I tore the whole engine down and rebuilt it from the bottom up finding little things here and there that needed to be replaced. Upon inspecting the top end, i didn't find any bad/excessive play in the crank, rod bearings or wrist pin. Now the machine runs great, but even after 2x adjusting the valves, the chatter is way more than you'd expect from a honda normally. My neighbor is an auto mechanic by trade, and i asked him to take a listen. the look on his face when i started it and it was chattering like that was priceless! He mentioned that maybe the valves themselves might be wore out or stretched. my question here: what all can cause the excessive rattle up in the valve cover aside from valves being out of spec? Everything else seemed to be in decent condition as far as rockers and guides go. I am fairly new to small engine/ATV repairs, but am learning as a hobby and have a fair amount of knowledge with how to do some wrenching. Thanks!

      Hello,
Hoping someone can help me out. Just picked up a 2001 Recon for my son, got a good deal on it but the rear-end of the bike came in a box (pieces). I have gone through and inventoried what I have and what I need but I am not sure what size ring gear spacers I should get. I have a new pinion gear installed and a new ring gear to put in it, all of the other bearings and seals are replaced also. So since this should be pretty much like a new differential, I am thinking that "F" is the right size (1.56) based on the manual where it says this is the "standard" size. I am thinking that I need to start somewhere before I worry about measuring backlash.

Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Does anyone have a used set of tires for a '97 Honda Recon pretty close to Sumter, SC?  Not looking for anything new or expensive but they've gotta hold air and have some tread left.  Wheels not needed.  Sizes are 22x7x11 and 22x10x9.  Thanks.
