1983 Honda 250r Parts

I just bought a 1983 Honda 250r and am new to the experience. I need quit a bit of work done. I brought to a mechanic and just for back breaks and start stop switch it's 960$. Can someone point me in the right direction.

First off welcome to Quadcrazy. That’s a lot of money for what you need done.   If your mechanically inclined you can work on the bike yourself and save a ton.  It’s also an old bike so I’m sure you paid very little for it so you don’t want to put too much into it.  YouTube has tons of videos to help you along as well as the members her at Quadcrazy.   Parts are available from eBay or aftermarket.  

But again this all depends on how much you can do yourself.

I agree with @Frank Angerano , that's too expensive for a brake job and switch. You can probably do it yourself. Check out some of the videos on youtube as mentioned.

Finding the time is one of the problems. Also parts. Another problem is knowing what I need. I am inclined but if it's not there to replace then I have a problem.

Listen, I’m not sure what your situation is but I can tell you this. You have to make the time if this is something you like to do! 

I have enjoyed doing this work/play most of my life. I got married, had kids and all of that was put on the back burner for a long time. As soon as things settled down I had to make the time to do what I am doing now.

Plain and simple this is what I like to do and it keeps me sane.  Not saying it’s for everyone  but you have a good old bike that you can get parts for and you can get the bike back to good. Question is do you want to have a project bike ? 

Its very rewarding bringing some back to life. 

Quadcrazy has a huge member base to help you along the way!

Make a list, prioritize it and bang it out if this is something for you.

I do enjoy it. But I'm working 7/12's right now and there is no time to be had. That's one of the reasons I wanted to go with a mechanic. I've looked on Amazon and Ebay for parts I need and I just don't see them. The mechanic told me they don't even make new parts for most of my bike. Is that even true? Can you tell me where to find new parts? And the reason I joined here was to be able to talk to ppl like you. So yes... I want to get this thing going. I'd at least like to get all the parts ordered that way when I get laid off I can do it.

7/12’s is money ! Make it while you can! 

I’ve taken a look and there are parts out there.  Even on eBay, depending on the parts you need.  

Make a list and post it on the forum and I’m sure myself and a few other members will know where to look and point you in the right direction and help out.

Ask the mechanic how much it would be if you supplied the parts. usually you can get that price cut in half if not more if they don't have to go through the dealer connects that most of them do.
