I"VE GOT IT: you can either buy a HONDA, or an Outlaw 525. However, if you buy the Outlaw, be sure to bring a fire extinguisher, tool kit and plenty of spare parts. I've owned a 2004 Honda 250, 2004 Rincon 600, and recently a 2006 Rincon 680. NEVER a breakdown, fire, spun bearing or any other problem. I don't care if it's a lawn mower, generator, car, motorcycle or ATV, HONDA ROCKS!

Yamaha's will stay together better......I only know of a handfull of folks that have bought an outlaw in the last year and all of em have been into the motors at least three times in the last year replaceing pistons. One of our best friends just quit working at our local Polaris dealership and went back to our local Honda/Yamaha dealership....I could write a large book on all of the stuff that he showed me on brand new Polaris's just unloaded off of the truck and stuff missing/broken right from the factory :frown:

Hey Racegun, anybody you know talking about the new Honda TRX 700 sport quad with IRS? I ride a Honda Rincon 680 now, but want something a little lighter and faster. My only other choice would be the Raptor 700, but since I ride in the woods a lot, I would prefer the IRS.

Nobody in our area has the TRX700 yet. For the record....I prefer a straight axle on a sport quad. The only quad that I have with a IRS is my Grizzly and I have rolled it several times and never had a problem with my straight axle sport quads on the same trails.

i think the honda 700 will be a kfx pretty much but with irs rear... way over weight and under powered for the weight...

the trx..

lol

the IRS is wayyy good. it deff doesnt suck.

and as for the S. its not bad.

but the IRS is better for trails..

obtw have you read one of the latest dirt wheels?

the Outlaw 525 IRS had more top end than the rappy and the KTM.

According to the California Resources Board, the Honda TRX 700 outs 53 HP at the crank. This compares favorably with the Raptor 700 at 46.9, and the mighty KFX700 V Twin at 48.8. I'm sure that HMF will also come out with a nice pipe/ moffler combo with a Doback controller for the TRX 700. I put this combo on my Rincon 680 along with a free flow air filter, and it really worked well.

As far as ground clearance goes.....here is a pic of Bill Ballance on his YFZ450....if you know what you are doing you don't need 11 inches of clearance.....In my four years of riding quads I have never had a problem with clearance on my YFZ450 or Raptors :wink:

it is pointless to argue.

just to let you know, author.

all these people are one sided honda or yamaha fans.

if you want a great trailbike. go for the outlaw.

and if any other atv. go for a hond 400ex or 450r.

thats all.

Your right trailblazer. Guess we all have our own opinions. As stated earlier, it's pretty hard to go wrong with any of the top end quads we have been referring to.

One thing about the fuel injected units is that you can buy a programer to control the air/fuel mixture. I installed a Doback controller on my Rincon which allowed me to program 5 different parameters. Great when your riding at 8,000 foot elevations like I do in the mountains, then come back down to the coast....

you also have to keep in mind not all dyno's will produce the same #'s.. a stock bike on this dyno will read 46 and on that dyno it might read 49.. there are alot of different things that affect dyno readings.. altitude, humidity, temp, etc...

and also keep in mind that most bikes run lean from the factory to meet emmisions.. so aftermarket exhaust, filter, jets/controller will make a huge difference in any bike.. more air in and more air out + more gas = more power... also if you don't know if your bike is running lean or rich and easy way to tell is by a plug check.. throw a new plug in and run it for about 30-40 mins pull the plug when still hot and see what color it is around the bottom.. white= lean, black = rich, paper bag brown = right on the money...

Ok, Time to chime in.

To start, IRS is going to be key to my riding style and trails. Sure I could slow down and work my way through with a straight axle, but I don't wanna slow down. So we can throw the Raptor out the window and focus this thread on whether or not to get the Outlaw 525 IRS or the Honda TRX 700xx. I am currently leaning towards the Outlaw based on price, weight, and a slight ground clearance advantage not to mention the awesome graphics. Then watching videos of people ride both, it appears that it takes a bit more body english to control the TRX. The TRX has a small advantage or not depending on the trail, being a little smaller in width. The Outlaw has the advantage of a couple of years to work out the kinks in the IRS setup and bike package. Outlaw has a bigger gas tank hopefully giving a longer ride. Honda has a good reliability reputation.

These are my opinions, whats your two cents.....

Of the 2, I would pick the Outlaw. The TRX like you said is big and bulky. It is also a first year machine which usually means some kind of recall will come out and they haven't had time to work out the kinks.

Just for the record, if you know how to place your quad around obstacles you don't need to slow down on the rough spots.

      Hi, I'm a new member
      Just bought a used 08 350 raptor with about 5 hours on it ( very clean ). Started fine when we got it. Now after a few mods (bumper, skid plates, air filter) Now will not start unless you pull in the clutch. I've checked just about everything and also checked that there is no pinched wires.       Have a 08 raptor brought to me a couple months ago. Got it on a trade for house remodel. Bike has around 30 hours. No that's not a typo thirty verifiable hours. The main Yamaha tech has put hands on this bike. Always Been reallyhard to start. If it does it runs really good. That's the kicker...IF! It started out intermittent now it's no spark at all. Everything ignition related is brand new. It all checks out good but still won't do it. Please help

      I have a 99 Kodiak 400 4X4 that I picked up for $300.  The previous owner had modified the foot shifter by welding a piece of rebar to it so he could hand shift while plowing.  As you can imagine, the allows for much more torque on the shifter than it was designed to have, and he broke the stopper off of the the shift mechanism.  No big deal, I ordered the part and put it back together, went through the carburetor and off we go, it runs pretty good.  
      The first thing I noticed is that when I put the shifter all the way down it goes into reverse, I'm supposed to twist a knob to get it to reverse but this seems to be disabled.  Also, once in reverse, it's a bugger to get back out.  I have to hold the shifter up, then quickly back down and up again to get it to come out.  All forward gears work fine, clutch is tight, no problems.
      The reverse cable and lever are in tact and seem to move freely.  
      My question is this:  What does one normally have to do to get this thing into reverse?  I assume put it in neutral, twist the knob, kick the shifter down.  Does the brake need to be applied?  I'm not sure what's going on here, I suspect it's been 'modified' as it goes into reverse without the proper precautions, just not sure if the mods were external on internal.

      Does anyone know the exact name of this part? Bottom of tire is tilting in Under the bike and top or tire is tilting out away from the bike. Not terrible but it’s a little 90 for kids want to make it safe. Just need to know exactly what the part is called.

      i have a 1993 timberwolf yamaha and the compression is good and lights work but for some reason the electricity is not going to the spark plug(s)! i got a friend to check it out and they said its no use but im not giving up! please help with this!
