can I run 5W-40 in my quad

I have a 2017 Alterra 500 TRV,  manual says 0w-40 oil should be used.  I have read that Rotella T-6 meets all the standards that the OEM oil does but I can only seem to find the 5W-40 unless I buy a 5 Gallon pail...lol.  Can I use the 5w-40?  OR just stop being a cheap SOB and suck it up and spend the $85 for the OEM kit?

You probably won't see any difference unless you're running it when it's cold (like -20 below cold) and even then only the short amount of time it takes the engine to come up to heat. Hell, the oil company I deal with at work "stopped making" 5W40 oil because their 5W40 tested good enough to meet 0W40 specs so they just started labeling it as 0W40. That being said I'm not a mechanic.

It was pointed out by another forum that Arctic cat has changed the recommended oil a few times, seems I will be getting the Rotella T6 for 1/3 the price - thx

That is kind of confusing that they would change the oil recommendation. Did they give a reason for changing it a few times? Were the OEM recommendations bad or something?

      Greetings,
Have a 88 LT80 that been sitting for a couple years. Bought a new piston, cylinder and head. Installed these, rolled it over and it quickly locks up.  Took carb apart. It was full of what appears to be 2 cycle oil. Cleaned it, but keeps locking up and 2 cycle oil continues to seap from exhaust port.  When i installed new cylinder, I noticed crankcase was full of oil.  I'm now wondering if that oil is what's getting sucked up into cylinder.  Should there be no oil in crankcase?  If that the case, how is crank and rod lubricated?  Sorry, never worked on a 2 stroke. Thanks!

having an issue with the unit when running under a load up a hill or in high gear, seems like the belt is slipping, there is a clapping sound coming from the primary clutch like it releases and snaps back in. i don't think I should have a noise like that. this is a friends unit and he has already replaced the primary twice with the same result.
not sure where to look next

      Gday all,

Been trying a couple different ways now to download a manual. Not sure what I am doing wrong but could someone walk me thru it?
I go to DL page and click on link
get a pop up for a PDfixer or something
close that and then hit download button and no go
tells me I have reached my limit but I have never DL anything ever.

I Ran across this video today comparing an aftermarket to OEM Carb on Suzuki Vinson, thought it might generate some interest, it is quite long but informative.
