lets all boycott burning rock atv park untill they tell use why out of state cost more than in state. they told me they looked at hatfield and mccoy and theres is that way, and i told them that hatfield and mccoy get state tax money for there trails there for out of state should pay more becouse we do not pay the tax to start with. burning rock get there money from federal taxs that we all pay so there for we should all pay the same to ride.

i hope that we can get them to lower there price becouse i like the trails and the people at the trailhead but for the money (if you have never been here) go to hatfeild and mccoy, they have a lot more trails, places to stay, and eat. they cost less to for out of state- $50.00 per year wit over 400 miles of trails and more comeing this year. burning rock cost $60.00 for out of state and there are not many places to stay and no where to eat, they have less than 100 miles of trails.

H/M to my knowledge used to have a weekend pass, that was less than an annual pass... whatever happened to that?

H/M will not get my dollar, either! What I can see here is both parks are becoming greedy. Everyone is in the cash flow, slump... why are these types of venues seting their fees so high?

first let me say that i like the trails and the people that run the trails, this is not a slam or any other put down on eather of them.

burning rock get tax money from the federal goverment in the form of grants. this grants or for the trails and buildings. anbody that payed taxs to the federal goverment, this is your money. they also get money from the west virginia tourism commission.this money is to be spent for advertising only. snow shoe, new river gorge, timberline four sesons resort, and many more get this same money and they do not charge out of state rates. if you would like the complet list letme know and ill send you the page.

they keep saying that hunting and fishing cost more for out of state, lets look at this. wv tax payer pay for game wardens, trucks, boats, boat landing, right of ways, land, buildings, biologist,ect. there for out of state should be more.

now if somebody can give a GOOD reson for this unfair rates i would love to hear it. i have not heared for the US goverment about the grants that burning rock received but i am waiting for them to email me and ill let you know what i find out. it is not right that they take all of our tax money for the trails than charge some of us more.

let me say again that i like the trails(only be 1 time) and the people, this is nothing against any of you.

The Hatfield McCoy Trails did offer a 3-7 day pass. It costs $37.00. They changed their permits last year. Only instate and out of state yearly passes. The yearly passes cost $13.00 more than the old "weekend passes". In my opinion, it is a bargain. The yearly passes used to be $100.00. They lowered the price to $75.00 plus tax. Then they lowered it again last year to $50.00. With over 500 miles of trails and six trail systems, fifty dollars is a bargain.

I don't quite understand how any true atv enthusiast would call for a boycott of an organization like Burning Rock. Let's face it, riding areas are going away in this country. Here in WV, we are working hard to acquire more and more land for your enjoyment, and to help boost our economy along the way. I'm the assistant director at BR, and I can promise you that we are working very hard to ensure you will always have a world-class place to ride. We are enthusiasts like you, wanting to create the best situation possible for everyone involved...the landowner, the park, the county commission, the local citizens, the guests, etc. This way, we all have a killer trail system to ride for years to come, and everyone benefits. We are the best advocates you have in terms of land acquisition and preserving your right to ride it.

Burning Rock does receive trail grants from the Federal Highway Administration, and they help defray some of the expense. However the grants do not eliminate the need for cash flow, and our permit sales are our main source of revenue. We do offer our residents a discounted permit, just like your state offers discounted hunting and fishing licenses to VA residents. There's no difference is there?

We use the best (and most expensive)mapping software available, we have great trailhead facilities (newly constructed and clean), and tent/rv camping (hookups) AT THE 75 ACRE TRAILHEAD. Those are heavy expenses. Our trails are growing and getting better daily, spanning approx 8000 acres. We purchased lots of equipment to make this happen and to do it right the first time. There has been a lot of money spent to construct, map, maintain, and improve our offerings...the grants simply can't sustain us. its ironic that people will spend 10k on a bike and gear and think 75 dollars is too much money for a year's worth of riding 8000 acres....all mapped and marked. 75 bucks for 365 days of white knuckle fun is DIRT CHEAP my friend. It costs that much for a couple good steak dinners these days.

H-M is great, I agree...and you are right they do have 400 miles (cumulative)of trails, to our 100. but they are comprised of many different trailheads that are completely seperate from the others, and require trailering from system to system if you want to ride it all. Some of those towns are 1.5 hrs apart, so it's not like you can unload and ride all 400 miles from the same trailhead. You are comparing apples to oranges. Burning Rock has just as many trails as any one trailhead in the H-M system, but we are much more accessible. We are located 6 miles from Beckley (pop 50000), at the intersection of I77 and I64. Don't know how you missed the lodging and food either. We have 1400 hotel rooms and 100 restaurants anywhere from 8-20 minutes of the trailhead, plus a campground, general store, and clean showers. Food delivery available as well. Walmart 5 minutes away.

I'm not attempting to advertise, just a friendly attempt to offer a different side to this gentleman's point of view. Defense mode I suppose.

you are right about the trails and like i said i have nothing agaist the trail or the people that run it , what bothers me is you take my tax dollar and charge me more. it is not the same as hunting and fishing, that is state money not fed. i want to be clear that i am not trying to put down your trails, i liked every bit of it

Parks in PA range from $200 to $400 for a family pass for the year. State trails are free but have little miles. Looks like you are getting a good deal compated to here.

I agree. I wouldn't complain with the $50 yearly fee. When I lived in TN I would pay $20 a day to ride trails or MX parks.

you guys dont get it, the trails are geting tax money that we all pay and then charge out of state more. im not saying that 50 is to much or to little, its the fact that i payed the same tax if not more than some in wv and they charge me more.
