What do you keep in your tool/storage box?

Recommended Posts

I'm fairly new to atving and I'm going on a trip at the end of the month with a few seasoned veteran. I don't want to be "that guy" you know, the guy that doesn't bring any tools and has to rely on everyone else to help fix his bike.

So my question to all you Quadcrazies is....

What to you keep in your storage and tool boxes?

What I have-

-Basic hand tools (screw drivers, plyers, hammer)

-Socket set

-Rain Gear

-Can of Ether

-Water proof lighter

-20 ft 6000lb tow rop (because I dont have a winch yet)

So what else do I need?

A good tire repair kit with tire plugs, patches, CO2 cartriges, tools, rubber cement can be bought in one convenient kit for fairly cheap. I've had to use mine more than once. Most valuable item in my opinion.

A roll of electrical tape, zip ties, flashlight, spare fuses.

There is a kit out there for like $20 that gives you a bottle of slime and a compressor. Get that along with a plug kit as well.

Aside from the all in one mechanics kits and a inch pound torque wrench i have a 12v inflator, tire plug kit electrical tape 12 v test light zipties mini sledge hammer selection of chems (wd40 brake cleaner dielectic grease) rags 1 ton comealong and about 500 ft of Muletape. Also gatorade water and nutrigrain bars first aid kit. Seems like overkill for St Clair but i do ride alone. Also i printed out the honda service manual and keep a copy in the truck. Most of this stuff fits in the plastic toolboxes from home depot

100% right on the Advil. I had a headache ruin one of my rides up north. I had to stop riding and rest for a few hours because I couldn't stand having my helmet on with a pounding headache.

Nice suggestions, keep em coming.

doesn't idle at times but sometimes when it does as soon as I touch the throttle it just shuts off, what could possibly be the problem? I thank you very much for any help, Thanks.

recently picked up some project bikes off CL for cheap.  got a honda fourtrax (the ancient 4x4 kind with the straight axle in the front as well as the rear and a back-up kick-start)  plastics are crap, but my goal is to get running like a champ and patch the plastics up and sell to one of my many friends that want a reliable 4x4 for dirt cheap and doesnt care what it looks like.
so the former owner says it needs carb rebuilt, but its sat for 3+ years since so who knows.  things I see:  carb is missing (he gave me a box of parts along with the bike), engine turns over and feels good with kick-start, brakes need work, battery missing (That always puts me off, cause then I know most likely someone's been tampering with the electrical.

Went to change oil and get my sons  2000 Suzuki King Quad 300 ready for spring and found the left front wheel wont move at all but the right does. Doesn't matter if it's 2 or 4 wheel drive same issue. Nothing looks bent, tie rod ends and ball joints in place jacked it up and shook wheel and bearing seems tight. Any ideas before I tear the dang thing apart?  Of course my son has no idea what happened.

Happy New Year all! Remember not to operate any vehicles while under the influence, you could get busted or worse, you could get hurt or hurt someone else who's playing it safe and end up in jail. Have fun and be safe.

Ok, starting a new thread because there is a lot of new stuff out there. Thinking of getting a new soft ATV bag instead of the quadboss rear lounger trunk I have now. I used to have a soft bag on my king quad, but that was a while ago.
Now I've got my grizzly and the box on the rear rack, which is nice.
Please post if you are using a bag or box, what kind, and what you like about it. Thanks.

I saw in past threads or possibly from another ATV site when I Googled my shifter problem. I am in the NE Mountains and it gets cold. I have my 2012 Grizzly 700 in the garage and it is NOT heated. The cold weather here was about -5 to -15 F. When it got that cold my Grizzly 700 would not shift into any gear. Once it warmed up it did shift into gear(s) no problem. I saw this happen about 3 times already since I just got it about 3 weeks ago. I saw a thread in from the past saying to drain the shifter, that there is a hose with a plug? Where is this hose and plug exactly? How do I get to it? Again, like I said I am new all around (wet behind the ears) but I am a hands on guy. I really do not want to take things apart I don't have to. I really need specifics and/or a drawing. I don't think it is the adjustment as when it is not so cold say around 40 degrees F. It does not happen. Plus like I said once it warms up it is fine.
      THANKS!
