A 1983 Honda 185s ATC 3 wheeler. Which is still running strong today, starts first pull almost every time.

Sorry, that was my first official off road toy

I started in the mid 70s on an old Honda 90 stripped for off road bush riding. Wasn't the best but it was all I had

Hmm, I wanted an '87 IT250 dirtbike, but they were really unsafe, so we ended up with a very safe 1987 Yamaha Tri-z 250... Not quite sure of my parents logic on that one.

After that, Polaris 250 Trailboss 2x4. There have been a whole lot between then and now, lol.

toolman we did the same with our SL70's my cousin & I had. We even added a motocross number plate where the headlight was & I also changed out the metal fenders for plastic fenders better knobby's and drilled out the pipe.

i started out on an 86 polaris trail boss 250 that i got for christmas when i was 16. i pushed it home more than i rode it i think. but i had one to ride so it was fun anyway. went from that to a suzuki 500 quadracer 4x4. then i bought my warrior and now i graduated to bigger and better things with my 700 raptor.

I started out in the 70's with a Honda 50, the type that looked more scooter than bike. I pieced it together from 3 bikes I bought in various states of repair. Not too classy, but it got me there. Next was a CZ 250 red frame that I kept into the early 80's. Kids, family, work, etc... took priority for years then, until I got my first quad in '04.

The scooter looking must have been the QA50 I thought they looked cooler then the mini trail50. A QA was the first bike I ever rode. My friend came to my house on his. I had been asking my dad for a bike. He ask my friend if I could ride his and if I made a lap around the house without crashing he would buy me one. I almost took out the carport railing, 1 tree & the shed but I made the lap and he stuck to his word. The only problem was I was wanting a Honda like my friends and I got a rigid frame mini bike. Once I found the govner I could flip it with my foot and blow the 50's away in a drag race that was the most fun I had with it other wise it would beat you up pretty bad on the trails.

Heres my story. Kinda long. I guess I was a late bloomer when it comes to quads. I had never ridden a quad in my life. Rode Dirt Bikes as a kid growing up. Back in Oct of '06 I found a Mustang on craigslist. Took it for a test drive one morning before work. Fast car. 351 Cleveland. I had planned on meeting the guy again after work. For some strange reason thats still to this day beyond me, I stopped in Hillsboro MotoSports on the way home from work. I had 6 Grand on me. There was a left over '05 sitting by the front door. It was on sale for $4999. It was $5499 OTD. I didnt even look at anything else. I knew nothing about quads accept I thought it really looked coool and I had the money in my pocket to buy it. I was sitting on it when the salesman walked up and asked... "Can I help you?" Without hestitation I pulled 60 Ben Franklins outta my front pocket and said "I want this Quad. Load it up in my truck." It was just about dark by the time I drove away from the shop. BTW, I didnt bother to ask my ol lady if I could buy it. LOL. Anyway, I took it by the house and showed her. She was kinda stunned but not mad. We drove over to a friend of mines house and unloaded it. I took it to the field across the street from his house. HOLY CHIT!!!!! I was surprised by the power. I had it for about 2 weeks and took it to Sand Lake. I was there a few hours and rolled it on a banked turn at the top of the bowl right before you get to the one-ways. When it rolled, I flew off and landed on my belly. The quad came bouncing and landed on my back. For a month I couldnt even walk. I was scared of it. I considered trading it for a 250EX. Went back to the shop. The salesman said..."Dude!!! You dont want a 250EX!!! Trust me. Just get used to it" I still wasnt convinced. I put it on craigslist for $4000. Calls were coming in. I had a guy that wanted to come look at it that evening. I decided to take it for one last ride at Browns Camp before I sold it. I was still afraid of it. After about 5 minutes I started feeling comfortable on it again. I decided right then, I loved my Honda 450 and would learn how to ride it instead of selling it. That was late Nov of '06. Work was slow for a Painter in Oregon. My new job everyday? Going to Browns Camp and ridding my Quad. I bought my Girl Friend an '02 Blaster. I rode my 450 for 4-6 hours almost every single day for 3 months. And yes, I know my way around Browns Camp pretty well. LOL. In March I bought her an '06 TRX250EX (Thank God I didnt trade my 450 for one of those) LOL Since then, I have become totally addicted to quads. I love them. Couldnt imagine not owning at least one quad. Luckily I have two. My "07 was $6500 OTD in July of '07. Bought it for my Girlfriend. Traded in her 250 EX. A month later we broke up. So, I wound up with two Honda 450's.

If you had to choose one mod that you couldn't live without, or had to recommend one what would it be?

Pulled my '86 Moto4 out of shed where it sat for 20 years. I knew it smoked. checked it over a little put in gas and it fired right up!!
Drove about 100 yards, ran about half throttle wouldn't idle.  Put on somenew parts, jug/piston and rings, carb and valve seals.
'went together ok, tuned it over by hand about 6 revs whick went well. Hit the starter it fired for about 6 revs and quit. tried it again fired once and then th sound of something slipping like maybe chain slipping over spoket.
Took cover off to watch cam sproket, hit starter again, heard same noise and the cam sproket was not turning but jumping a bit. Chain was still tight. You will probably tell me I need to split the lower case but hoping there mightbe something else.
I don't fully understand the chain tightener, the plunger only moves about 1/4 inch, should it move much more than that when off the motor and compressing it by hand?
      Thanks for any thoughts.
