    you are better off with 1 peice boot and repack cv joint i have a1990 front and rear are different boots,some ebay sellers list the same for front and rear i have changed both,check amazon to front and rear are different

    Was the bike sitting where the fuel in the carb has gone bad and causing a problem? It sounds like there is a fuel restriction someplace. Fuel dries up and gets very thick like a varnish and flakes up inside the bowl. Bad gas ? Some dirt in the carb? Also keep in like that the sometimes the fuel pump needs to be primed. Could be air bound.

    Sounds like a cheap and good project. Great advice from @Frank Angerano and@wanrep! For $100 I would buy it just to mess with it.
