    If it was on it when you got it it should go back on, might take a little finagiling, like turn it to the side get it started in the rubber connection and then turn it to where its straight the rubber should give a little bit so you can get it in there. If you prefer to get another one i have had good luck lately with aftermarket ones, i prefer OEM but a good used one is hard to locate, i have tried on several of my projects.

    Its different from OEM, waas it on the bike when you got it.

    I was really hoping that it might be a binding gear from the backward power surge, i wouldnt think that what you did would burn the motor out, but you were having problems with it before you replaced the battery.

    You have replaced a lot of the electronic parts I think i would be looking for a loose connection at the fuse box, look closely at the main power fuse for any abnormalities, or a loose ground causing it to loose complete power. Just for good measure put a battery charger on the battery just to make sure it is fully charged.

    Loosing spark and dying is one thing, but not to have any power anywhere and then come back without you doing anything is strange. It sounds like the battery is completely shorting out. I would try another battery and see if it does the same.

    Was it doing this before you replaced the neutral switch.

    Definately, i see that a lot in machines that have been sitting for years. It usually is a by product of water getting into the carb mixing with bad gas already there. I usually scrape as much out as possible, get the rest that is visible with a dremmel tool with small wire brush. Then i put it in a Ultrasonic cleaner to try and vibrate the rest out with a lime and scale remover, and also be sure to take the emulsion tube out to make sure all the holes are open before the ultrasonic cleaner.

    Did you have voltage on the wire that plugs into the terminal, or does the voltage only get there when you go to turn. If voltage is there all the time, then there must be a sensor internally that sends voltage to the motor when pressure is applied for turning.

    I would take the unit out put voltage directly to it and see what happens, that would be what i would do. Its possible the motor is stuck maybe could free it up.

    Thats a crazy price. Can you take the old one off and see if you can figure out whats wrong, i know there are no replaceable parts, but still may be repairable. Whats really bothering me is you unplugged all the electrics and still no code, so the computer thinks that it is still operating as it should, so maybe it is internally grounded or not grounded, havent looked at wiring diagram, causing the computer to think everything is fine.

    Great advise Mech! I think you covered it well. I did notice in the PDF it said if no codes are tripped its not electronic its mechanical.

    Thanks for the clarification Mech, i have always done the secondary clutch at half the torque of the primary, i think the book i was reading listed the secondary at 44 ft pds and the primary at 80.

    I havent looked at the service manual, but 40 ft pds is fairly standard for that nut.

    I did that with the vacum petcock also had a lot of trouble with it.

    According to Web Bike World it has 31 HP, to me that seems a little high for a 250, but they are great engines

    I dont think it would have burned anything out, but it could have gotten low enough you might need to do a reset

    Great information here! This took a long time to gather the information and put together. Thanks for sharing! I really like the looks of the new Ca-Am Outlander, got a lot of good ratings. I havent done the reasearch you have done, Good work on doing that.

    I would check the battery voltage and make sure you have a good connection and voltage there, the speed sensor and throttle position sensor are also involved you may check for a good connection there, are you getting any trouble codes on the cluster, and what exactly is it doing or not doing.
