Looks bad I think you are right about no oil, hate to see that happen to one so new. I use rockymountainatvmc.com or motorsport.com have used partzilla no problems, the others are usually cheaper.

Suzuki Eiger 400 2004 Rear Wheels Locked (Next Restoration Project)
Gwbarm replied to Gwbarm's topic in Suzuki ATV Forum
I did jack up the rear end today drive shaft unhooked I can turn the wheels by hand and drive shaft moves with no noise a little wear there because I can move the wheels a bit before the driveshaft moves, but that is not my problem. I tried turning the shaft coming out of the engine there and no movemeant what soever, but do get movement from the shaft coming out of the front of the engine going to the front wheels. I tried shifting with the foot shifter and it does shift and feels like it's going into gear. So something has the backshaft frozen solid. IMG_3848 1.mov IMG_3853 3.mov -

So glad you got it figured out without splitting the case, I hadn't abandoned you , I have been keeping tabs on your progress, just got kind of busy, Mech is so good with transmissions I thought you were in good hands. -
Suzuki Eiger 400 2004 Rear Wheels Locked (Next Restoration Project)

I did look and I came to the same conclusion there should be a little play there. Thats why I was thinking it may be a seized bearing, I even thought even if the gear had broken off and jammed I should get a little movement one way or another. -

I haven't messed with it lately, but I think I remember that I was getting no movement whatsoever at the engine, I jacked the rear end up and I was getting a little back and forth movement, but I just think it was from the final drive, once I unhooked the drive shaft from the engine I could roll it around, so I assumed the final drive was OK. I am going to get out tomorrow and do some more evaluating and testing and see what I come up with. I was going to get a big wrench and see if I could gently move the drive shaft at the engine, at that time I was thinking it could be a seized bearing. I decided not to do that until I took the cover off and take a look at the gears, whatever is going on has not locked up the engine because it runs, but I didn't run it very long. Then shortly after that the Big Bear followed me home and you know the rest. -

Forgot to mention that, one of the first things I did was run a magnetic pickup tool down the oil hole and got nothing did it several times, at different angles, nothing. So I determined maybe that was a good sign. I haven't changed the oil yet figured that could wait until I pulled the side cover, figured it might be a while before I got to it. -
How is the Scrambler coming along.

Im finishing up on the Big Bear, just tying up some loose ends and its done. My next project I actually bought first, but the Big Bear seemed like it was more challenging so tackled it first. Now looking the Eiger over im not so Sure. I bought this Suzuki Eiger, almost a year ago, rear wheels locked up, but it ran fairly well. It was so bad that it took 3 Big Guys to get it on my trailer. All the parts were there it ran. He wanted 600.00 and I offered him 400.00. a plus it had the original Kei Hin carb on it. You might ask, why would you want something so ugly, it is often referred to as the ugly sister to the King Quad. I actually like the Eiger I have this one and also a 2007. I have riden them before, they are strong a true beast, I am a fairly Big Guy 6' 3" 195 pds, and it fits me good, but what I really like is the wide foot print and low center of gravity , not so easy to turn over. So I get it home and I don't have 3 big guys to help me get it off my trailer, but I do have a John Deere, hooked it up and drug it off the trailer,an afterthought I should have used a couple of furniture moving dolly's under the rear wheels, oh well. Maybe I didn't ruin the already stuck rear end or transmission I was sure which, I was fairly sure it wasn't locked brake drums, after all that they should have popped free. This is what I have done so far. It's off the trailer I took the drive shaft bolts loose, they were tight, had to get a 3 foot cheater, I thought they were going to break. Got them out and now I can roll it around. I checked the shifter, this is a manual shift Eiger LTF400F. Foot shifter moved didn't seem to be going to any gear, but it was hard to tell, the shifter on the tank which has Low, High, and Reverse did not move. I took it apart and oiled it up good still wouldn't move. Thought the cable was stuck so I unhooked it from the linkage and cable moved freely. Looked at the linkage closely and it was stuck. I tapped it lightly, very lightly , with small hammer and it freed up kind of, but still stiff. I could tell this side cover had been off before and put back very sloppily. This is kind of where i left off except the plastics are all off, you might have seen me working on them in another post. Nothing I have done so far has helped, my next step was to take the side cover off the engine to see what's going on in there, but installing my Granite counter top, numerous honeydews, and the big bear kind of slowed down my progress. I did determine that it wasn't the rear end, that's actually what I thought it was going to be. If anyone has any ideas, they would be appreciated.

Did a little wire chasing today, but before I did that I put 12v to the winch just to see if it works , it works fine maybe a little noisy I will have to put a load on it to be sure. Found which wires were supposed to be yellow and blue and hooked them up to the winch accordingly. Found the battery hook up wires, located a hole to run them through to the battery. Which one would you have guessed to be positive, yes I would have also, except it wouldn't reach the positive battery post. Good thing, I probably would have hooked it to positive. Except I am questioning everything I find on this rig. Got them at least color coded correctly. After all that it didnt work, but I had to do all that anyway. I suspect it might be corroded in out switch. Or maybe the main controller. They make it pretty simple if you use their wires, blue and yellow to winch, and black and red to battery. Either part is very simple to replace.

I replaced mine because it wouldn't hold pressure anymore, as soon as I finished rolling the engine over it went back to zero, I could have repaired it, but wasn't really that interested and had had it a long time. I haven't used a vacuum gauge much what do you hook it up to.

I replaces my harbour freight one with one I got off amazon, not even sure which Chinese brand it was.How much discrepancy was there between the Snap on and the harbor freight one.

My first thought would be a Big Bear 350 engine, if you can find one about the same year as yours it might come closer to fitting without much modification, just a thought. I have never done it.

I decided to go with the All Balls carburetor rebuild kit, I'll see how it works out, at least they are a name I recognize as a a supplier of good quality aftermarket parts. Tusk is a brand endorsed by Rocky Mountain ATV so probably good and quite a bit cheaper. Buffalo was also endorsed by another OEM parts house but I can't remember which one now. So they are probably all good quality parts.

Doing a little closer looking, this is a warn A2000 nice little winch, a little small but OK for anything I am going to do, if I was buying one I would have bought a bigger one maybe 4000. The problem is it is wired with all black wires looks like gauge #8 no color coding at all. It should have a Yellow to #1 post on the winch and Blue to go to number 2 post, both are black, of course red and black to the battery, the solenoid is mounted in the tool box at the very back of the machine, with two black wires going to the battery connection, this is why I got a light show, my deductive reasoning was evidently flawed. No markings on the control pack either, I found out later they are on the back of the control pack, labeling you will never see again once you mount it, not a lot of thought went into that one. Stilll trying to figure out which wire goes where I should have done this while the plastics were off. Kind of hard to wiggle a wire in the back and see which one is wiggling in the front at the same time.

Good you found it, that is the last place I would have thought to look.

Never seen one in my area. I thought I recognized the name they made the 6 wheel ATV vehicles in the 60s and surprisingly still make them. Nice looking quad.

This should be an interesting project, which bike is it , Big Bear, Moto4.

I had one of their testers go bad also, never was very good I don't think it was very accurate, but what happened to it was after a while it wouldn't hold pressure.

I forgot about the electric shift motor that may be very well what's stopping it from moving, with battery power when you push the shift button do you hear anything at the motor, like its trying to shift maybe a hum or a click -
I have done that a few times with starting fluid, not the safest way to seat a tire on the rim , but it works. I think the last time I did it sprayed too much and the tire caught on fire. I have done the tie down and that works sometimes.

When you pull up or down on the shifter does it move the spring loaded change mechanism at all at the shift drum. If nothing is moving there it’s not going to shift -
Digging a little further none of the wires are color coded, but I did find one that had a red crimped terminal, maybe the positive, and side of it a black, they must be the ones that go to the battery, wires are the right length, so I hooked them to an external battery, incase of another light show, I didn't want to fry my electronics. No light show, winch didn't work either. I should have done this first, got down and looked at the winch, no wires connected or anywhere to be found, I guess it wouldn't work. Found them stuffed away in the tool box, I will try to rewire it tomorrow. Getting kind of late.

Glad you got it figured out, you have worked hard on it. Just look at it this way, that's one you won't forget next time, we all make mistakes , that's just part of the fun, right, I have learned to just laugh and tell myself , what a stupid thing to do. I have fixed flats with slime, but its not cheap, it may work for a while, the last one I fixed is leaking down again, the best way is to put a tube in it , but you have to take the tire off the rim to put it in correctly, so that means tire tools, I have been taking mine to places that put them on, I don't really like messing with tires, that's a strong statement for me, because I pride myself on doing everything for myself.
