  1. The temp should be between 200 and 205. If it goes above that the fan sensor will detect this and kick the fan in. If your fan doesn't kick in then the sensor at the bottom of your rad is gone or a wire is off. Hooking the fan up straight to a toggle could cause the engine to run too cold and this may result in a sooty spark plug.
  2. The cv balls bearing will not be perfectly round they will have small flat spots on them yet they still shine.
  3. I have been repairing atvs now for over 20 years and You know I have heard customers of mine have the same complaint. Just as prevalent when pushed over the floor with the wheels turned as it is when driving it. I have seen this many times with the Honda 4 wheelers and I have seen it with the Kawasaki 4 wheelers both models have straight rear end axles and believe it or not the sound is coming from a worn cv joint in the front end. I have replaced the front cv joints and the sound was gone. I have also removed the cv joints and checked the ball bearings. You will find they are indeed worn.
  4. what do you mean throwing oil from the crankcase? Top, bottom, sides or thru the case tube?
  5. ok, then. If its a solid axle that kinda shoots the cv joint issue down. Therefore, the only other issue could be the swing arm bearing. They may have a little play. If they are good then the issue has to be in the rear end. Gears may look good but the tolerances may be worn too big. Too much movement between the gears. I say this because there is only a straight axle, a gear box and two wheels hubs and your shock. Again, double check the gear tolerance or check the swing arm bearing. Any play found replace them.
  6. what year is this prairie 400? Does it have a straight axle or independent suspension? If its independent suspension I have seen this before when the cv joints lose grease and therefore the balls in the cv joint lose their roundness and therefore gives the symptom of jumping a bit when turning. New cv joints will clear that issue for you if that's what you have.
  7. This is a 4 x 4 and it seems like the sound is travelling. It may be in the rear end and the gears in there may have some wear or the axle bearing in the rear end may be getting bad. The noise would be more relevant when making a turn.
  8. I contacted Bombardier via support email, they emailed me back and suggested I take it to a dealer. Well I knew I could do that but I was hoping for a little more info. Kawasaki here I come. This piece of crud gotta go.
  9. I emailed Bombardier and they did reply but not with a negative email. Basically, all they said was take it to your local dealer. Now these people need to understand not everyone that purchase these products have a local dealer to go to. My nearest dealer is over 3 hours away and they are only opened mon to Friday and I work during the week, so where am I gonna get the time to take it there. Not only then do I have to pay their exuberant rates I now have to lose a days work also. I have been repairing ATVs now for over 20 years and ive never had this issue before. Computers are good but in this case they are a pain in the butt. I cant even remove "maintenance soon" info off without having to take it to a dealer. That sickens me. Something so expensive to do and its so simple if they had it styled in a way that an individual can reset this when he does his own service. Which is in my case and I am sure thousands of other guys do their own service as well. Dealer scam if you ask me. This bike gotta go. Hello Kawi how does your bikes measure up these days?
  10. I had a Kawasaki and I liked it. Some guys talked about the ride in the Can Am so I went out and purchased one. Brother was that a mistake. Nothing but issues since I bought it. This bike definitely gotta go. Back to Kawasaki for me. Still aint figured out why I listen to others talking about bike, especially since ive tried most of them and I still come back to the Kawi.
  11. I wish it were a carburetor but its efi and that makes it a nuisance because now I have to fool around with dealers. I do not like these newer electronic they are putting in bikes. Was a lot simpler when it was a carb.
  12. I am going to contact Bombardier personally and see if I can get this matter resolved. Ill post the reply as soon as I get one. Stand by
  13. I have a 2009 Can Am 400 Outlander and I went in the mountains for a ride and my bike stalled 3 times. It would start again immediately, then it would let me ride for 1/2 a mile and then stall again. This repeated itself until I got down at a lower level closer to sea level. Then the bike was fine again for the rest of the day. I purchased a service manual but no troubleshooting topic in it to cover this issue. Has anyone else had this sort of problem with this model bike. I hunt and fish that area and I don't need that aggrevation. So if I cant find a solution then the bike gotta go. Hope someone can help me. Either post a solution here or email me at [email protected].
  14. I have a 2009 Can-Am 400 and it too is stalling at higher altitudes. I do believe it has something to do with the computer. After all, it works lovely at lower levels. So that eliminates any mechanical problems. From what I can find out its been programmed to operate at sea level or handy there abouts. Need to address this matter with Bombardier and find out solutions.
