sounds like just dirty from sitting pull off float bowl clean out with carb cleaner squirt some carb cleaner up those little jets that are sticking down where the float bowl was , some times this will get it,if it dont you"ll have to disassemble the carb and clean out those little holes in the jets, i use small number drills some times i use welders thorch tip files if i can find them small enough.

That is kind of what I was thinking, sounds like your pilot is running a little lean. If the machine sat for a long period, then carb buildup could definately be the problem. If it just started happening all of a sudden, and the machine has not been stored for a long time, I would check for an air leak in the intake track. If you just aquired the machine, or made a significant change in elevetion, I would try adjusting the pilot screw or going to a larger pilot jet.

 ok so i did wat you guys said clean out the carb. put everything back together and it still does the same thing. im confused now. its like when the choke is on it well idle but right when i take it of it well die in like 10 to 15 secs.

idk could it be bad gas?

i made sure i tighted everything.

but its all stock. ive done nothing to change the amount of fuel or air going into it. for got to mention that when the choke is on it idles a lil funny, it well idle high then go down then high then down take choke off then couple secs it dies.

Also, to answer your earlier question, bad gas could definately be your issue. If it sat for a year, I would definately get rid of the gas, clean the tank and make sure the petcock is clear. There is a screen in the tank that goes over the peckock, make sure that is clean too. When you clean the carb you need to clean EVERYTHING. So you may have missed something when you cleaned it the first time. Also, your choke mechanism itself could be part of the problem, make sure to take it apart and clean it too.

check plug and clean it,if it still does it ck and see if you have vacume, sprey water around intake and carb that will tell you if it is sucking airalso ck breather if dirty clean it with soup and water let it dry reinstall itif none of that helps you need to clean carb jets, make sure needle valve is not sticking make sure air iset 1.5 to 2.5 turns out if you do all that it will run

From Arkansas. Just bought a 2012 Gator 850i RSX because I could not pass up the price. BUT it has an idle problem. So, to be honest, I joined just to get a service manual. I have a choice: 1)Buy a hard copy: ~$100; 2)Buy a CD ~$35.00; Get a direct download for free posting 10 times; or get a download for $29.00 (subscription). Haven't decided what to do yet.

      Hi Guys!

New member and could really use your advice. I would have to believe this has been an issue for others but a search here came up with nothing......? (Probably me not doing search correctly)

      I have an 87 Big Bear 350 YFM350FWT
The OEM Mikuni BTM carb is shot and would rather replace than rebuild.
It is no longer made and I have had good luck with NICHE carbs so I ordered a #K-CRB-0006 This was what they said was replacement when ordered. This Carb only uses 1 Throttle cable. The Slide is linked so it uses one. (OEM had 2nd cable coming through top to move slide)

Problem is when I ordered a replacement Cable from NICHE (#C-CBL-0061) the Cable wire is a little short, not allowing Throttle to return all the way down to Idle position. I called NICHE and they are at a loss. Haven't gotten back to me after 2+ weeks.

What would you recommend other than a carb rebuild?
Can I just use 1 of the OEM cables (It is the right length) and snip/disconnect the other that went to top of Carb for Slide?
      Or ??

Thanks in advance for any advice you have!!

Howdy y'all, I'm trying to fix a neighbors 2015 Brute Force 300. Came in with hard to start and won't idle except on choke issue. I pulled the carb and found the pilot jet as well as the emulsion tube partially clogged. Cleaned up everything, put it back together, still having issues...  It will start right up on choke and will also start off choke if you give it just a touch of throttle but it absolutely will not idle unless it's choked just a touch. Also, excuse my ignorance but I'm assuming the "dial" thingy attached to the carb that turns in and out is for setting idle??

Have a 1998 AC 300 2x4, Just installed a new carburetor. Engine starts easy but the choke RPMs are very hi and take along time (5-10 mins when cold out). After engine has warmed up choke releases and it idles and runs fine., It does no have an electric choke. The choke lever is never used and it seems like an auto choke? Long story short, how can I lower the choke rpm levels?

Also, carb came with a spare145 jet, not 100% sure what is installed. Could this impact choke RPMs?

Any help and information greatly appreciated.

This is something I'm extremely curious about. Has anyone ever attempted to buy a quad (or any other vehicle) from an impound lot? I've always wondered if this could be a bargain, or a waste of time. Google searches do turn up some helpful results. Looks like the state of NJ holds auctions online which I'd be a bit hesitant about.

My online searches haven't really turned up any results of anyone buying an ATV this way. I'd be really curious if anyone tried this, or knows someone who has. I've actually found a couple pages with online auctions for my state, but none had ATVs.
