So far ive added, as you can see, blaster shocks which are slightly lighter and lower the quad significantly. Removed front brakes, parking brake and all cables/levers attached to it, front light, front fenders, a few tabs here and there, nerf bars, heel gaurds, Have some lightweight drag bars on the way. Soon to come is a +6 swingarm (cant keep front down as it is without hardly any engine work!), ported head, bored carb, bored cylinder, possibly higher compression but still pump gas, and in the far future drag arms, axle, stem, lightened frame, spindle mounts etc. All in all for everything i want..is around 4000$..Which would be all out for my bike, which is alot cheaper than mx.

huh? 4k less than wat it would cost for mx? unless your getting the best of the best parts you can make a mx quad with 2500 bucks.

but sounds like you got everything in order. quad looks good, hope evrything works out for ya.

oh yea, nice choice on the exhaust, sparks are badddd!

He never said it was 4000 less than a MX. He said it would cost him about 4000. That is less than a MX. But that's not true. All you really need to make an MX quad is some longer arms. That's 900 or so for top of the line. Shocks are about a 1000 and a rear axle is a few hundred bucks.

...adn thats if you want a top of the line MX quad...I raced mine w/stock shocks and a-arms...I didn't do too bad, now that I have the shocks done I can tell I could have been a lot faster going out of the jumps and cornering....but a lowering link in the back of mine helped tremendously and that I got off ebay for like 30 bucks or so....a whole lot cheaper than the a-arms...

but, anywho, I've never seen a drag quad either Savannah...so don't feel bad, they look pretty bad @$$ :) :)

I'd like to check out one of those races someday...so Bot, they do drags only in Sand?? do they do them on pavement also??

They race everything on pavement. They run sleds on the 1/4 mile strip. The snow mobiles can hit nearly 200 mph on pavement. If you go to the big sand dune spots, that's where you see the people with money. They have these kind of toys.

What i meant by 4k and less than a mx quad is going all out. With 4000$ my bike will be pretty much as drag of a bike as you can possibly make it with as many parts as you can get. The only thing that wont be high dollar is the engine, becuz of course you can get more than 5k just in an engine. But comparing to amx, thats 4k and ive got a top of the line drag bike, to get a top of the line mx bike your going to spend ALOT more than 4k. But to each their own.

If you look at the four stroke war videos on youtube, the majority of the bikes you see with no plastics what so ever are TRXs, and thats what im going for. Pretty much a frame, tires, engine, handlebars. And they fly

My friends KQ 300 starts fine and runs, as soon as you put it in gear and try to accelerate its bucks and farts like crazy, not moving... I cleaned carb and it worked good for 1 day... now back to same problem.... could it be such as a bent valve????

I'm assuming, it's alright to test the engine after adjusting valves without the rear axle installed? Can someone please verify this? I'm waiting on axle parts and wanting to get that done while waiting. Thanks! 🙂

I have been rebuilding some ATVs in my spare time and teaching myself along with the help from the internet how an engine works and getting bikes running again is quite enjoyable. I even built an arctic cat 300 4x4 from two parts bikes the had seized motors and missing parts. It was pretty enjoyable.

So I am now working on a sazuki quadrunner 300 1992 which had a whole list of issues when I got it. I have fixed almost everything I need to in order to get this bike running. But something is going on inside the head or crankcase.
I had to replace the timing chain because it was very stretched due to the previous owner.

What the issue was, the timing chain was off the sprocket inside the engine due to it being stretched it slipped off. So the previous owner rebuilt the top end thinking it would fix it which it may have temporarily, but when doing so they welded an extra inch onto the tensioner to hold the chain tight. Which as you can imagine caused a dozen other issues.
So that stretched the chain to the point where I could remove the cam with the tensioner in.
It beat the sliders all to hell. Destroyed the cylinder housing and obviously ruined the tensioner.
I didn't realise all of this until after I rebuilt the engine.  I noticed wear where the timing chain runs through the cylinder. I found the cam had no retaining chair, or clip whatever you want to call it so the cam was beat to sh** also. It had almost an inch of play side to side.
So I pulled the head off of my parts bike and fixed all of it. Then put it together and went to pull it over and found it was not on the sprocket (this is when I realised that all that damage and the welded tensioner was because the timing chain had been off the sprocket)
So I pulled the stator cover off and pulled the flywheel (which I should add to get at the stator cover I have to remove the rear tire and a arm as well as remove the bolt through the front of the engine. And the exhaust system has to be removed to pull the cylinder as the exhaust guard is bolted to the side of the timing chain tensioner. Stupid setup. Glad the king quad doesn't have that.
So I got everything apart and the flywheel off. New timing chain (nice and tight now) put the head back together and flywheel but it is quite hard to turn the engine over. I can but with difficulty. When the valve cover was off it seemed to spin much more freely. Before I tear everything back apart and start again any ideas on what it is?
