2 way radio mounting

Trying to figure out the best way to mount a 2way radio onto a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700.  I think I can just mount the antenna off the back rack pipe, but what I am most concerned about is a weatherproof enclosure and where to put it.  I am pretty sure the radio I want to mount is a normal DIN size like a car stereo and have seen a couple waterproof enclosures for them for boats on ebay.  Wondering if anyone else has done anything like this and how you went about it.

Make a waterproof fiberglass housing and put it anywhere you want

 Get  a  Ham  license ( Amateur radio operators).  It take a  bit of study to get the basic technician  license but it is more than well  worth it.  Equipment is more expensive, but the license only  costs whatever fee the examiner charges.  With a ham  license  you are allowed a  lot more power  and you  can  go through repeaters on the  VHF  bands to  have  far  more range than  any expensive  GMRS gives you .. Work  at it  and get  higher class ham licensing and you  can literally talk to hams all  over the world when the  HF bands are open. Gone are the Morse code requirements to get licensed now and the basic license requires minimal theory.  I  can't speak  for  the US  license ,  but the basic Canadian  one is simple enough some people  are able  to  pass it  with   one weekends worth of instruction and study.

I have my ham license, gmrs license, and a few part 90 frequencies licensed.  got a couple kenwood 8180s laying around that are part 90 and 95 type accepted so they'll cover all 3 services legally.

I mounted my radio inside a harbor freight plastic ammo box, used a radio mounting kit and drilled vent holes on the underside

My second one i mounted a radio on the bottom of another ammo box and put a water resistant stereo flip up cover because i got tired of flipping the lid open and closed, this way the lid is on bottom and makes access easier for wireing and coax. i mounted the box into a milk crate attatched the ant to the crate and mounted it all on the front rack

      Hey, how's it going?
      I'm a new member looking to get some advice before I go to check out a '14 Sportsman 800.  I wanted to get input from you guys that have experience with Polaris machines. I've been riding my whole life, dirt bikes and atvs... Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, but never Polaris.  I'm looking for advice on what I should be looking for, any common issues, really any general advice.  I couldn't find many reviews of the Sportsman 800 online, so and general reviews on quality/reliability would be great too.
      A little info on the machine. 
      -2014 800 EFI
      -640 miles, 77hrs.
      -Winch
      -Asking price is $5500
      Couple add ons: (nothing major) 
      -Aftermarket wheels with Maxxis tires
      -Front and rear brush bumpers
      -LED lights
      Probably going to see it in the next couple days. I'll make sure to check out all the basics... Fluids, front end, tires, suspension etc.  Plus anything else you guys recommend.

      recently picked up some project bikes off CL for cheap.  got a honda fourtrax (the ancient 4x4 kind with the straight axle in the front as well as the rear and a back-up kick-start)  plastics are crap, but my goal is to get running like a champ and patch the plastics up and sell to one of my many friends that want a reliable 4x4 for dirt cheap and doesnt care what it looks like.
      so the former owner says it needs carb rebuilt, but its sat for 3+ years since so who knows.  things I see:  carb is missing (he gave me a box of parts along with the bike), engine turns over and feels good with kick-start, brakes need work, battery missing (That always puts me off, cause then I know most likely someone's been tampering with the electrical.

      Yes I just got a 1998 polaris xplorer 400 4x4. Ran fine after hauling then died. Cleaned carb and put new fuel filter, hose, and new battery in. Starts 3 out of 10 times but will only run for a short time. Any suggestions?

      I just bought my first Quad, a 2014 Sportsman 400 HO and want to replace the battery. It's not dead, but the voltage seems low and I'm not sure how old the battery is. What does everybody recommend for a replacement battery? Is there a difference that I should know about? I see Gel batteries, Regular Acid sealed batteries and a lot of different prices. Any help would be appreciated.
