Metal shavings in crankcase of Baja Storm 125

Recommended Posts

Sorry for not posting updates in a while. The stator works! I ordered a new one and figured out how to wire it in and now it sparks strong! I have spark and compression but no fuel. I am going to remove the carb and fuel petcock to clean them both as I see no fuel in the fuel line. One question: How do I remove this throttle thing on the carburetor so I can take off the carb completely?

Nice work ! That throttle cable will come off by grabbing that throttle control on the carb and turning it and pull the cable off as it slacks. Almost like you would a bike chain.   Then once the cable is off of the main part line it up with that slot and slide it out.

There should be a part that holds the throttle cable into the carburetor also. You can unscrew that as well to slack the cable.

Nope not a problem.  The slide works on a vacuum.

So have a clean preferably white towel or an old pillow case.  I like to see what’s comes out and it’s easier to keep all the parts local.

Take it apart and keep all the screws for each part separate on the area you working on.  If you have a can of the air people use to clean off computer keyboards it helps.

Something  to clean the small holes out. If you need something I always recommend taking a strand of a piece of bicycle brake cable , it works great.

In the process of removing the carburetor I think I might have disconnected a wire or two. After fully reassembling the quad and hooking it up for a jump I pressed the starter button and nothing happened. I gave it a closer look and saw that a wire coming from the assembly got unplugged and when I plugged it in the starter motor spun. However I still cannot get the quad to start and the front right headlight is not working either. I have no spark.

As far as the headlight goes that may be localized to just the front light.  Is the left side headlight working ?

As far as spark goes you have to go back and look. Chances are you missed something.   Also have you checked that all the wires are connected to the battery correctly and nothing was left unconnected?

kill switch all good ?

Ground wires connected?

Only for sweating your as* off it makes a difference.

If you have any starter fluid spray it into the air intake as you are trying to crank it.

If it fires then the engine is obviously starved for fuel.  If you don’t have starting fluid put a drop of gas in the head where the spark plug goes and and put the spark plug back in and try to fire.

If all that works then you failed someplace on the carburetor cleaning. Maybe a stuck float or the fuel port coming from the needle is clogged.  It happens.

I cleaned the carb and the quad ran on starting fluid, however in the process of cleaning the carb I could not get carb cleaner through the place where gas enters the carb from the tank. I fear this might be my problem. How can I unclog this?

This is the connection I am talking about. And BTW the fuel line does not have gas in it when attached to carb but petcock is not clogged

I tried to start the quad without a gas cap and it didn’t help.

You have to take the carb apart!  Cleaning a carburetor means taking the carburetor off of the bike and dissembling the carburetor.   You can’t just spray a cleaner into the carb or under a needle valve etc and hope it works.  Take it off clean it properly and make sure ALL paths are clean.   Then reinstall and you will be fine.

The blockage could be  in the port  where the fuel  line is connected . That  leads to the needle  valve on the float. If this is your first time doing a total  disassembly  and clean,  watch the video  Frank  posted , then   work on your  carb .. Take  your time and  check  all  passages  and  jets  for  crud  blocking them.  Keep track  of what  goes  where  as you remove the pieces  and reassemble  the pieces.

I did a compression test on my 2005 Bombardier Traxter 650 CVT and it's 75 PSI.  service manual only talks about leak down test.  No specification for engine compression the manual.  What does 75 PSI tell me?  Thank in advance.

A little history of this machine.  640 miles.  Picked it up about 2 years ago, not running. Probably the computer.  Tested all circuits and confirm it was the computer.  Long story short, I watched a Youtube video and fixed the computer. ATV now started and runs.  BUT, it tops out 20 MPH.  I cleaned the carb 3 times also using a Mikuni carb kit after the second time.  Slide in carb is going up and down.  Only adjustment for fuel is at 1.5 turns out.  NGK Sparkplug had soot on main part but brown on the electrode.  Champion sparkplug is brown.  I check CVT clutches and they both appear to engage like they suppose to.  Checked valve clearance it's 0.00, I can't get any feeler gauges in-between.  I check timing chain I believe it's in the correct position and hasn't skipped.  I removed muffler plug and drilled into muffler to try and make sure it wasn't plugged.

So I've got a Hisun 550 that I was doing some work on that required removing the CVT and it's housing. Upon attempting to reinstall the clutch, sheaves, etc, I found that the belt no longer fits - it's far too wide. None of the parts have been replaced, they're all OEM. Exactly the same parts as what I took off a few weeks ago.
To be more specific, my belt is 1.25in wide, but the gap between the clutch and the primary sheave is only 7/8in wide. I'll include a few photos to explain.
Has anyone ever experienced such a bizarre problem? Any help at all would be appreciated, I've been stuck on this for a month. I'm open to just about any suggestion.

I have been exploring all the options available, so many, its hard to choose. I have kind of narrowed it down to the Honda Pilot, Subaru Outback, and Kind of looking at the Outlander, although its a little small,  the new one is nice looking. Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations or gripes with any of these rides. I have driven Jeeps for the past 25  years and they have been great, but their price point has gotten to high. Expieriences good or bad would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi, I have been around everything with a motor since I was little, and finally purchased more to get my husband, and kids involved. I have 4 quads I will be searching around for information on. I have two 2002 Suzuki LT80K quads, a 1997 Yamaha Timberwolf 250, and a 1996 Kawasaki Bayou 220. I have had different ones throughout the years, and plan on buying another Yamaha Banshee. I plan on trying to learn more about all of them, so I can customize some of them. I know nothing about them besides how to race them, my dad always took care of the rest, but figured it was time for me to learn.
