I have a 2003 Big Bear and want to get a spare key for it. Turns out, that in my area, only the Yamaha dealer has the blanks and they want $7.50 !!! to make a spare key.

Even Honda, which is supposed to be pricey, only wants $3.50.

$7.50 to grind a spare key!; I can get a car or house key ground at Walmart for $1.50.

What gives with this outrageous price?

Welcome to the site Arky217!

I can appreciate your rant, but please avoid posting duplicate threads. You posted the exact same thread in 3 different areas. I removed the other 2.

As far as your key, that's what happens when it's only available at one place, with no competition...

key prices are crazy ... i have been charged as much as $13.00 for a key for a quad ... i buy alot of wrecked and non running machines and some times have no key for them .. the dealers i guess hold the rites to the atv's key market and we all get the shaft when needing 1 .. the local john deere dealer gets $10.00 for them and thats any key for there brand ... i guess we just gotta love getting the shaft when going to the dealer for stuff that only they sell...

So how would I get one for a big bear I bought used? I don't have the most legit bill of sale.. it won't be a problem to get a more official one, though

If you have a key and just want a copy for it, that shouldn't be a problem. If you don't have a key at all, just talk to a dealer and see what it would involve to get a key for it.

The first thing I would do is call the state police, give them the vin and see if you bought stolen property.

Next I would grab a used key switch with key off e-bay or the forums.

I highly doubt it's stolen but you never know. I'm still in contact with the seller since we're both hunters and plan on hunting together this season. I haven't had time to ask the dealer yet, thanks for everyone's responses

Bought a 88 big bear 350 4x4 took it for a run and lost spark, found it was stator so I replaced that then took it for a long run and it sat for 2 days and no spark again, this time stator tests good on ohms and voltage for source and pick up coils so I started replacing things including regulator, ignition, ignition coil and plug cap, spark plug and everything tests great including all safety switches until the orange wire for ignition coil from the cdi it only reads 3 volts so I replaced the cdi and still 3 volts, any ideas??

I have a 2009 Honda Rancher TRX420FA with shifting problems.
Usually it shifts ok when cold but after couple minutes it will stop shifting with no codes.
The 1st shift clutch oil pressure when in first gear is 74psi. The 2nd shift clutch oil pressure when in second gear is 74psi.
The 1st shift clutch oil pressure when in neutral is zero. The problem is when the tranny is in neutral the 2nd shift clutch pressure starts around 10-15psi and builds to 20psi. Is this normal?

Fixing for a friend. Atv was at a different friends house to be fixed and he rebuilt the carb and had it running nice, then it shut off and no more. He replaced the key and the coil.

So he got busy, so I am helping, I checked the wiring from the stator to the cdi, and from the cdi to the coil. All is good. I checked resistance on the pickup coil, good, and on the source coil, open. I buy a new stator (China) and the 4 prong plug only has 3 wires in it while mine has all 4. I checked resistance in the source coil and it's in the 300's. I pulled one of the old pickup wires out of the old stator and wire it in the new one. Still no spark.

Why do the wires differ, I checked the VIN again and it's "J" for the year and I got a 1988 stator. Please help!

Hey guys, so I've been messing with my quad, and between all the starts, the battery is dead. Is there a certain way to charge these? Can I just throw a trickle charger on it and call it a day? can i also jump it like a normal car with a battery pack or is that to much voltage
